If a woman's illness has not yet fully recovered, and due to physical exertion or movement, she experiences acute pain in the lower abdomen, pain in the waist and hips, involuntary tremors or convulsions of the four limbs, without fever, Danggui Baizhu Tang (Angelica Sinensis and Atractylodes Macrocephala Decoction) is indicated.
Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 1 fen), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 1 fen), Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus, 1 fen), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, 1 fen), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 0.5 liang), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 1 fen), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, 1 fen), Renshen (Ginseng Radix, 1 fen), Huangqi (Astragali Membranacei Radix, 1 fen).
Crush the above herbs into pieces the size of hemp seeds. Add three sheng of water, decoct to obtain one and a half sheng of liquid. Strain out the dregs. Take one cupful orally at once. After about the time it takes to eat a meal, take another dose. Cover with warm blankets to induce slight sweating; the condition will improve.
Haicang (Wang Haogu's pseudonym) stated: Involuntary trembling and shaking of the four limbs, which recur repeatedly, all belong to this category.
Shaolingqi San (Burned Pangolin Scale Powder): Although its nature lacks distinct cold or heat properties, it employs the principle of "describing categories and imitating forms" (Shu Lei Xiang Xing) to expel pathogenic factors from the Yin level that have invaded the body. The wisdom of the sages reached such heights. Therefore, Cheng Wuji held it in low regard, considering it an insight beyond ordinary expectations by Zhu Gong (Zhu Danxi), which later commentators could not reach.
Chensha (Cinnabaris, flown and ground, 9 liang), Longnao (Borneolum Syntheticum), Nifen (Calomelas, ground), Shexiang (Moschus, ground, each 3 fen), Niuhuang (Bovis Calculus, 3 qian), Jinbo (Folium Aurum, 90 sheets, ground), Badou (Crotonis Fructus, 315 seeds, peeled, heart and membrane removed, stir-fried until hot, ground into powder, oil removed).
Mix and grind the above ingredients uniformly. Refine honey by removing pure yellow wax (6 liang), add Baisha Mi (White Sand Honey, 3 fen), refine together until uniform. Form pills. Each liang of powder makes 30 pills.
If men or women suffer from Shanghan (Cold Damage) or epidemic diseases, where Yin and Yang Qi interact, toxic vapors knot and stagnate internally, causing gastric wheezing and restlessness, red eyes, and irregular tidal fevers lasting for several days or even seven days...
In Zhang Zhongjing's *Huoren* (The Man Who Saves Lives), the syndrome of Yin-Yang Yi (Mutual Transmission) is listed. If the pulse truly indicates a Yin syndrome, Shaolingqi San should be used to purge, combined with herbs entering the Three Meridians for administration. This is most appropriate. Regarding other miscellaneous Yin syndromes...
For the Yin region, efficacy is rapid. Furthermore, these two medicines align with the *Shennong Bencao Jing* (Divine Farmer's Materia Medica) descriptions of treating Kidney Qi and strengthening Yang. Assisted by ginger, Cinnamon Twig, Aconite, and Evodia fruits as adjuvants and guides, their efficacy is multiplied greatly. This must not be overlooked.
Medical texts, compared to Confucian classics, are less aesthetically pleasing to read. They do not bring joy like poems mocking wind and moon, nor do they inspire ambition like classics on propriety and righteousness, nor do they evoke admiration like biographies of loyalty and filial piety. Thus, scholars disdain these skills as trivial and do not study them. Consequently, few people value them. When illness strikes, one entrusts life to others. Is this lack of wisdom? Moreover, Shanghan is a major disease throughout history, and the Yin syndrome section harms people particularly quickly. Utilizing leisure time, I compiled this *Lueli* (Brief Examples), hoping it may benefit gentlemen who cherish life. Perhaps someone will read this book, ponder it repeatedly, connect the front and back, and thus possess the joy of open-mindedness, the satisfaction of ambition, and the beauty of extraordinary praise. Is there any greater pleasure? It is sufficient to dispel disease and preserve life, and to prolong years. How boundless is this joy! Fan Wenzheng Gong said, "If not a famous minister, then be a famous physician." The meaning does not exceed this. Re-inscribed on July 13th.
I wrote the book *Yin Zheng Lun* (Treatise on Yin Syndromes). There were originally three versions, differing in quantity. This was not intentional inconsistency. Generally, the words of sages cannot be fully comprehended in a single reading. Therefore, whenever I gained new insights, I dared not consider previous statements final or sufficient, nor refrain from adding to them. Thus, the first version was in Henan, recorded by Fu Mengchen and others; it was concise and brief. The second version was in my hometown; when sent to Beijing, I added two or three treatises. From Renchen to Bing Shen, nearly five years passed, during which I added supplementary notes and post-medication judgment rules. The original intent and origins of predecessors' statements—whether agreeing, slightly differing, or containing unspoken nuances—are detailed herein. Seeking advice from enlightened individuals, I found none in various commanderies; readers merely smiled or sighed, leaving me to long for the day I might ask my Dongyuan Li Xiansheng (Li Gao) to find peace of mind. I write this fearing I have not fully expressed the intentions of predecessors. Re-inscribed on the 21st day of autumn, Bing Shen year.
