The ancients stated that Shaoyin disease (Disease of the Lesser Yin), Jueyin disease (Disease of the Extreme Yin), and Yindu syndrome (Yin Toxin) are suitable for moxibustion, or methods such as scallion ironing, primarily because the body surface is cool. If Yin qi is stagnant internally while Yang qi floats externally, resulting in high fever on the body surface and hands/feet being warm or hot to varying degrees, moxibustion is contraindicated. In cases involving the aforementioned three syndromes, it is excellent to stir-fry wheat bran with hot vinegar, place it in a cloth bag, and fumigate and iron the area below the umbilicus. It is also said that for San Yin syndromes sinking into the bone gaps, applying 3, 5, or 7 moxa cones between the Qigu (the junction of the xiphoid process and the umbilicus) will restore warmth to the feet once the treatment is complete.
The *Huo Ren* (Life-Saving Book) records that for Yin syndromes where various medicines fail, fluids cannot be swallowed, the body is cold, the pulse is imperceptible, breath is short, and consciousness is lost, the scallion ironing method should be used. This originally addresses the pathogenesis of upper heat and lower cold. Although both methods are ingenious, using old vinegar to stir-fry wheat bran until hot, placing it in a cloth bag, and fumigating below the umbilicus is faster than the previous two methods. Furthermore, bathing the four limbs with a decoction of scallion whites boiled in fermented grain juice is also beneficial. If a patient desires to sweat after taking medicine, bathing with this decoction to reconnect the Yang qi of the four limbs is particularly advantageous.
External Connection Method: Gan Jiang (Prepared Rhizoma Zingiberis), 2 parts, processed into fine powder; Shijue Ming (Concha Haliotidis), 1 part, ground separately into fine powder. Measure and mix evenly. Take 2-3 qianbi per dose, mix with saliva in the palm to form a paste, cover the patient's genitalia with the hand, until warm sweat appears. Mu Li (Concha Ostreae) can replace Shijue Ming; use calcined Mu Li powder.
Another method: Ding Xiang (Flos Caryophylli), Bi Bo (Fructus Piperis Longi), Gan Jiang (Prepared Rhizoma Zingiberis), Mu Li (Concha Ostreae).
Another method: For treating edema that is predominant, moving up and down不定ly, with unceasing pain, take an appropriate amount of Mu Li (Concha Ostreae), seal firmly with salt mud, roast over 3 jin of charcoal until the fire is exhausted, cool and take 2 liang. Mix with 1 liang of Gan Jiang (Prepared Rhizoma Zingiberis), processed into fine powder. Mix the two ingredients evenly, adjust with cold water to the proper consistency, apply to the affected area. Recovery occurs when urination becomes abundant and smooth.
Shenque (CV8), located at the center of the umbilicus. Acupuncture is prohibited; needling causes continuous discharge of foul fluid.
Yinjiao (RN13), located 1 cun below the umbilicus.
Qihai (CV6), also known as Bei Yang, located 0.5 cun below Yinjiao.
Shimen (CV5), located 2 cun below the umbilicus, is the Front-Mu point of the San Jiao (Triple Burner). Moxibustion is contraindicated for women, as it may cause sterility.
Guanyuan (CV4), located 3 cun below the umbilicus, is the Front-Mu point of the Small Intestine, serving as the Lower Ji and the convergence of the Three Yin meridians and the Ren Mai (Conception Vessel).
Zhongji (CV3), located 4 cun below the umbilicus, is the source of Qi.
