Expels Dan-shi toxicity, eliminates wind-toxicity, and clears excess heat qi in the chest. It can be processed into powder for consumption. It brightens the eyes and ears, relieves thirst, and resolves jaundice. If there is pre-existing cold qi in the body, it should not be consumed, as it may cause abdominal distension and qi stagnation. Children who consume it in autumn may experience pain below the umbilicus. [Chen Cangqi · Su Jing]
(1) Primarily treats Xiao-ke (Wasting-Thirst Diabetes) and Xia Shi-lin (Passing Gravel/Urolithiasis). Do not consume in large quantities. People in Wu region love to eat it, but it causes them to suffer from Jiaoqi (Beriberi/Foot Qi). [Chen Cangqi · Su Jing]
(2) Furthermore, it triggers Hongxiangjiao (Hongxiang Foot/Beriberi), Tanhuan Feng (Paralytic Wind/Limb Flaccidity). It damages teeth, turning them purple-black. It causes loss of complexion, with dry skin and flesh. Sudden ingestion leads to vomiting clear water. [Chen Cangqi · Su Jing]
(1) Promotes the functioning of the Five Zang organs, but long-term consumption may also induce fever and yellow disease (Jaundice). [Chen Cangqi · Su Jing]
(2) Seeds: Consumption moistens the lungs but generates heat in the Upper Jiao. If eaten with hot roasted meat or hot wheat-based foods, it causes Re Du Huang Bing (Heat-Toxin Jaundice). [Chen Cangqi · Su Jing]
(3) (Leaves): For sudden persistent vomiting and anorexia. [Lei Xiao]
(4) Additionally, boiling the juice for drinking relieves thirst. It is particularly effective for regulating the Lung organ, Lung Wind Chuang (Wind-Crusts of the Lung), and sores on the chest and face. [Lei Xiao]
Consumption enhances spiritual clarity and intelligence, strengthens Qi and complexion, but excessive intake induces fever. [Lei Xiao]
(1) Edible; however, its peel is unsuitable for medicinal use. Before the first frost, it is sour. Only after enduring the frost does it become sweet, hence named "Gan" (Sweet Sugarcane). [Chen Cangqi · Lei Xiao]
(2) Clears heat-toxins in the intestines and stomach, expels Dan-shi toxicity, and relieves sudden thirst. Excessive consumption causes Lung dryness, Cold in the Middle Jiao, and triggers Liu Pi Bing (Flowing Accumulation Disease). [Chen Cangqi · Lei Xiao]
Primarily tonifies Qi, with secondary effects of descending Qi. Do not consume with alcohol or food, as it generates Phlegm. [Lei Xiao]
(1) Treats epigastric and abdominal fullness with heat, and dry mouth with thirst. Those from Persia are superior. A few drops applied to the eyes remove heat membranes and brighten vision. Those from Shu-Chuan are inferior. Currently, those from Eastern Wu are available but inferior to Persian ones. These are all made by decocting sugarcane juice and cow's milk, resulting only in finer granules after processing. [Li Xun · Su Jing]
(2) Additionally, mixed with jujube pulp and Ju Sheng (Sesamum indicum/Black Sesame), ground into powder, and formed into pills. After each meal, hold one pill the size of a plum pit in the mouth until dissolved and swallowed with saliva. This moistens Lung Qi and assists the Jin-Ye (Body Fluids) of the Five Zang organs.
