A person in summer experienced coldness and aversion to cold, covered with heavy quilts, yet still shivering. One physician intended to treat it as Cold Damage (Shanghan), while another disagreed, stating it was Heatstroke (Zhongshu). After regulation with Qingshu Yiqi Tang (Clear Summerheat and Boost Qi Decoction) (see Miscellaneous Prescriptions for Internal and External Use), the patient recovered.
(Refer to Cholera-like Syndrome for comparison.)
Sha Syndrome includes Yin Sha, Yang Sha, Wu Sha, Ban Sha, and Jiaochang Sha. In the early stage, abdominal pain is common; some cases do not hurt but feel dizzy, heavy, and distended. Ginger must strictly be avoided. Immediately decoct Nansheteng (Caulis Trichosanthis) [herbal name] in water, mix with wine, and ingest. This can instantly revive the dying and is extremely effective. If...
Scraping Therapy: Select a porcelain bowl with a smooth, narrow mouth. Prepare a cup of hot water, add one or two spoons of sesame oil. Dip the rim of the bowl into the oil-water mixture so that it becomes warm and slippery. Hold the bowl with both hands and gently scrape downwards along the patient's back (strictly avoid scraping upwards). Gradually increase pressure. When the bowl dries, dip it again and continue scraping. The pathogenic qi descends accordingly. Therefore, for severe cases with deep toxicity, scraping the back is indispensable. This is a simple and effective prescription for reviving patients with Sha Syndrome, being the most potent and stable method.
Another prescription: Prick the Shaoshang (LU11) and Weizhong (BL40) acupoints. The method is described under the Cholera chapter.
Another prescription: Take a handful of salt and rub it on the two wrists, two hypochondriac regions, two sole centers, the epigastrium, and the back, totaling eight areas. Rub until many purple-red spots appear. As the patient gradually feels relieved, recovery ensues. For all types of Sha distension, Heatstroke, and Cholera-like syndromes, even those near death can be saved. This is the first simple and effective prescription.
Another prescription: Take seven tender Plantago seeds/herbs (Cheqiancao), soften them by rubbing, and insert into the nostril. For males, use the left nostril; for females, the right.
Another prescription: Use red paper twists to inspect the body. If red spots are found, indicating Ban Sha, burn these spots with a lamp fire until completely consumed to prevent recurrence. Alternatively, stir-fry two jin (approx. 1 kg) of salt until hot, wrap in two blue cloth bags, and apply heat compresses to the chest, abdomen, and back. Replace when cool. This method is excellent. Additionally, decoct five qian (approx. 18.75 g) of Buckwheat (Qiaomai) and take orally. Huoxiang Zhengqi Wan (Agaricus Pill for Regulating the Middle and Rectifying the Qi) must absolutely not be taken (it may be taken for other types of Sha syndrome) because it contains Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Zisu (Perillae Folium), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), and Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), which are contraindicated for Ban Sha.
Another prescription: Grind raw Baifan (Alumen) into powder. Take one qian (approx. 3.75 g) per dose, regardless of gender, mixed with Yin-Yang Water (a mixture of boiled and unboiled water). This is effective for various Sha syndromes and fainting due to Heatstroke where consciousness is lost, instantly reviving the patient. This substance raises the clear and descends the turbid, hence its miraculous efficacy. Those intending to benefit others should carry it personally; on journeys or late at night, it serves as an elixir.
Another prescription: Urgently obtain raw Taro (Yutou, also known as Yunai) and eat it. If it is not Sha syndrome, it will taste astringent and difficult to eat. If it is Sha syndrome, it tastes delicious. Consume continuously one...
Another prescription: Take Huoxiang Zhengqi San (Agaricus Powder for Regulating the Middle and Rectifying the Qi) (see Miscellaneous Prescriptions for Internal and External Use). It is steady and effective, but absolutely contraindicated for Ban Sha syndrome.
