If the patient has a gentle temperament and no other diseases in general, this is attributed to abundant blood with heat. Use *Danggui Shen* (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Stem part) and *Chuanxiong* (Rhizoma Chuanxiong), each 0.7 qian; *Chishao* (Radix Paeoniae Rubra), *Shengdi* (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata), *Zhimu* (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae), *Maidong* (Radix Ophiopogonis), and *Digupi* (Cortex Lycii), each 1 qian; *Gancao* (Radix Glycyrrhizae), 0.5 qian. Decoct in water and take on an empty stomach.
If the patient has an irritable temperament, prone to anger and jealousy, this is attributed to both qi and blood being hot with stagnation. Use *Zhixiangfu* (Rhizoma Cyperi Preparated, stir-fried and ground), *Danggui Shen*, *Chuanxiong*, *Baishao* (Radix Paeoniae Alba), *Tiaohuang* (Radix Scutellariae Preparated, stir-fried), and *Huanglian* (Rhizoma Coptidis), each 1 qian; *Shenggancao* (Raw Radix Glycyrrhizae), 0.5 qian; *Shengdi*, 0.7 qian. Use *Danggui Shen*, *Shengdi*, *Chuanxiong*, *Chishao*, *Huangqin* (Radix Scutellariae, stir-fried), and *Huanglian* (Rhizoma Coptidis, stir-fried), each in equal parts, to make *Sanbu Wan* (Three Tonics Pill): specifically treats blood heat. *Huangqin*, *Huangbai* (Cortex Phellodendri), and *Huanglian* are all stir-fried, mixed in equal parts, formed into pills with honey, and taken with warm water.
If the patient is thin, generally ill, and has heat symptoms, this is attributed to internal injury of the Chong and Ren meridians.
