In cases of trauma where the side (left or right) is unknown, if there is hematemesis (vomiting blood) or hemoptysis (coughing up blood), observing the color of the blood clarifies the location. Dark-colored blood indicates left-sided injury, while bright red blood indicates right-sided injury. If no blood is expectorated, examining the eyeballs can also determine the site: ecchymosis around the cornea/pupil indicates left-sided injury, while ecchymosis on the sclera accompanied by redness and swelling indicates right-sided injury. The left side corresponds to the Liver, and the right side corresponds to the Lung; the pupil corresponds to the Liver, the sclera to the Lung, and the pupil itself to the Kidney. It is common that when the right side is injured, pain manifests on the left side during episodes. Treatment must not be limited to one side alone; both sides must be treated simultaneously for recovery.
Dangguiwei (Tail of Angelicae Sinensis Radix) combined with Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens), Binglang (Arecae Semen) and Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra) should be used.
These four herbs serve as the main components, allowing for modifications based on the condition.
Ruxiang (Olibanum) and Moyao (Myrrha), along with Gusuibu (Drynariae Rhizoma) to supplement bone repair.
For head injuries, add Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), followed by Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) and Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix).
For chest discomfort, add Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus); Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus) and Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) are also applicable.
For wrist and lower limb issues, use Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), treated with Shichangpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma) and Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex).
For back injuries, use Wuyao (Linderae Radix), where Lingxian (Saussureae Radix) offers miraculous effects.
For bilateral hand injuries, Xuaduan (Dipsaci Radix) is essential, combined with Wujiapi (Acanthopanacis Cortex) and Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus).
For hypochondriac injuries, Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) is advanced, with Longdancao (Gentianae Radix) and Zijingpi (Bauhiniae Flos) for treatment.
Da Hui Xiang (Foeniculi Fructus) and Guzhi (Psoraleae Fructus), with Duzhong (Eucommiae Cortex) added to strengthen the waist and limbs.
Da Hui Xiang (Foeniculi Fructus) and Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix); abdominal pain need not be doubted.
If stool is obstructed, Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) and Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus) promote downward movement.
If urination is blocked, Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen) and Mutong (Akebiae Caulis) facilitate diuresis.
If significant swelling is present, Zelan (Lycopersici Herba) yields the most remarkable efficacy.
If a leg is injured, Mugua (Chaenomelis Fructus) at the knee demonstrates its effect.
For systemic trauma, there is a specific formula; drinking wine is recommended in full measure.
Zhuma (Boehmeriae Niveae Folium) burnt to retain its nature, and Taoren (Persicae Semen) in abundance.
Honghua (Carthami Flos) is indispensable, and Xuexie (Dracaenae Sanguis) is rarely absent.
This formula is truly excellent, composed into a poem.
Mediocre practitioners refuse to transmit it, perhaps harboring selfish motives.
Ruxiang (Olibanum) and Moyao (Myrrha) are frequently used in formulas; they must be defatted. If not defatted, recurrence of symptoms is feared. For skin-breaking wounds using Xiangpi (Elephantis Corium), it must be stir-fried with Huashi (Talcum) to prevent suppuration. For traumatic fractures with skin breakage, herbs are decocted in water; for injuries without skin breakage, herbs are decocted in wine, and Tongbian (Urine of a healthy young boy) must be added to invigorate blood and resolve stasis.
For all types of falls and blows, dispersing wind and resolving exterior pathogens is the primary approach. Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Zelan (Lycopersici Herba), Jingjie (Schizonepetae Spica), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Dangguiwei (Tail of Angelicae Sinensis Radix), and Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) each in 1 qian, plus three stalks of Congbai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus), decocted in water and taken orally.
