Whenever there is a fall or blow causing injury, the flow of Qi and Blood becomes stagnant. This may result in unconsciousness, alternating chills and fever (Wanglai Hanre), symptoms that are lighter during the day and heavier at night, and various other complications. Ignorant practitioners, failing to examine the cause, recklessly administer potent remedies, leading to many unjust deaths, which is truly regrettable! Treatment should be initiated promptly. If medical care is delayed until half a month later, the blood stasis will have solidified, and the water passages will be blocked, making treatment difficult. Since exterior-releasing methods can no longer be used, one must carefully distinguish the condition and prescribe medication according to its severity. If cyanotic swelling turns red, it indicates that blood circulation is resuming and recovery is imminent. However, if the jaw is tightly closed and medication cannot be administered, there is absolutely no hope. The patient should avoid wind while sitting or lying down, and all raw and cold foods should be avoided. Beef causes tendon contraction, and pork may trigger disease; neither should be consumed. In cases of severe trauma, undress the patient and carefully observe the color and shape of the blood vessels throughout the body, and check whether the pulse is harmonious. If the pulse is absent, death is inevitable; if the pulse is deep and fine, survival is possible. If the Shangen area (root of the nose) is intact and the testicles are present, the condition is treatable; if the testicles retract into the lower abdomen, it is untreatable. A broken fontanelle with sunken bone is difficult to save; injury to the anterior fontanelle with brain matter extrusion results in immediate death. Tight pain in the chest and heart region, where cyanosis predominates over the "wrapping heart" area, indicates an off-center heart injury and is treatable; if redness predominates over the "wrapping heart" area, indicating direct injury to the center of the chest, it is untreatable. Cyanosis at the upper epigastrium leads to death within seven days (one yu). Injury to the lower abdomen not involving the umbilicus is treatable; if Yin and Yang energies are indistinguishable, diarrhea persists uncontrollably, and Qi escapes without retention, the umbilicus is damaged. Even if the esophagus is severed, if it occurs after a full meal and the patient survives for two days, it is treatable; if the nostrils turn black, the tongue swells, and consciousness is lost, the Zang-Fu organs have failed. The area behind the ear is a vital point; there is no formula to reconnect a fractured spine. Breast injury in men is not critical, but breast injury in women is a crisis. Injury to the lower back: if the patient can laugh, prognosis is poor. Injury to the lower abdomen is most contraindicated for pregnant women. The above outlines only the major points; physicians must adapt their treatment to the specific clinical situation.
