In the summer heat, and among travelers or farmers in drought-stricken areas while treading water wheels or weeding fields, this condition often occurs. Sudden fainting is called "Zhong Re" (Heat Stroke). The method of treatment is unknown to most rural men and women; it must be widely disseminated in advance, which is boundless merit. Whenever this condition is encountered, even under the scorching sun of midsummer, one must absolutely not move the patient to a cool place, nor give them cold water or cold food. If cold water is given, or if the patient is moved to lie in a cool place, they cannot be saved. Immediately make a circle with hot earth from the road around the navel, have many people urinate into it, so that warm qi enters the abdomen and the patient revives. Simultaneously, administer ginger soup and child's urine (Tong Bian) while hot. For women, immediately use boiling water to soak cloths, replacing them alternately to moxibustion/iron the navel and three cun below it, also to allow warm qi to enter the abdomen. This method is extremely simple and miraculous. Additionally, blow Tou Guan San (Penetrating the Obstruction Powder) into the nose. Or use one or two cloves of garlic peeled, take a pinch of clean hot earth from the road, pound them together until very fine, mix with boiling water, strain, and administer. Or use one or two qian of raw alum powder, mixed with warm water for administration; all can save the patient. After waking, still avoid raw and cold foods.
Mr. Shen Yucang, in the winter of the 26th year of Daoguang, passing through Xiangtan, witnessed a rice boat crew member suddenly suffering from severe heart and abdominal colic, feeling helpless, scratching and biting wildly. All medicines were ineffective, and doctors did not know what disease it was. Extremely critical! Fortunately, a guest from Liling on the same boat fanned the patient with a sun fan and shouted loudly: "Dangerous! This is the eruption of mad dog poison, a fatal case. If you pay a reward of six thousand coins, I have a secret prescription that will cure him immediately." The boat owner pleaded for help, saying the crew member's wages were low, agreeing to pay four thousand. Fellow boatmen advised that saving someone from urgent distress is great kindness. The Liling guest, denied his desire, stood by without helping, causing public anger at his cruelty. They seized the Liling guest, tied his hands and feet, and placed him beside the patient. Fearing being scratched or bitten, the Liling guest regretted his stance, willing to treat but demanding no reward, asking to be untied. Due to his previous cruelty, once untied, he broke his word. They insisted he reveal the true formula, guaranteeing survival before releasing him. Reluctantly, he revealed a large dose of Renshen Baidu San (Ginseng Detoxification Decoction), added Sheng Di Yu (Sanguisorba Root) and Zi Zhu Gen (Bamboo Root), decocted strongly. If the patient's jaw was clenched, wipe it with sour plum meat to open it. Administer one dose urgently; consciousness clears after one dose, and the illness vanishes after two doses. This is based on personal observation. According to the Liling guest: Whenever a mad dog comes home, or is encountered on the road unable to avoid, or bites clothing, touching the toxic qi, symptoms include fear of wind and fear of gong sounds. If one dose of medicine is taken within seven days, find red hairs on the patient's head and pluck them all out. On the second seventh day, chew raw beans to test for residual poison. If chewing soybeans produces a raw bean smell and nausea, the poison is exhausted, no need to continue; if there is no raw bean smell, tasting like cooked beans without nausea, urgently administer another dose. On the third seventh day, test again with beans as before. After three doses, residual poison turns into pus and blood, discharged completely through feces, ensuring permanent safety. If a healthy dog is bitten, use this formula before onset, adding one liang of Wu Yao (Lindera Root), decocted strongly, mixed with rice for feeding, preventing madness. All treatments followed this formula were effective instantly, even pregnant women could take it to recover, ensuring safety without other complications, repeatedly tested with miraculous results. Many sought the formula from afar, delayed buying herbs, and died due to delay, which is tragic. Here I detail the origin of the formula, verified as miraculous, printed for common knowledge, allowing immediate treatment, and begging for wide dissemination, which would be fortunate.
Zhen Wen Dang Shen (Codonopsis Radix) 3 qian, Hong Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix) 3 qian, Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 3 qian, Qiang Huo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix) 3 qian, Zhi Ke (Aurantii Fructus) 2 qian (stir-fried), Fu Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Hort. Rhizoma) 2 qian, Du Huo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix) 3 qian.
Another prescription: Di Yu (Sanguisorbae Radix) 3 liang, one copper lock, placed in a new clay pot, with one and a half bowls each of wine and water, decocted to one bowl, taken warm on an empty stomach. The poison dissipates internally with no sequelae. Then take Ming Xiong Huang (Realgar) 1 qian, mixed with one tea cup of sesame oil, taken three times over three days. For the wound, follow Volume 13: fill a walnut shell with human feces, apply heat (moxibustion-like), then apply a paste of raw Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) powder, Xing Ren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), and sugar. If blisters form from heating, apply raw Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) powder mixed with sesame oil for effect.
Another prescription: Take a large handful of Lu Bian Jing (Vitex Negundo Leaf), chop finely with roots, divide into two parts. Stir-fry one part with Qing Dai (Indigo Naturalis) water, stir-fry the other part with Huang Ni (Yellow Clay) water. Mix evenly, make several doses, decoct in water and drink. The poison exits secretly through urine. Even if poisoned by Ban Mao (Mylabris) causing pain and screaming, this resolves it. Follow up with Chen Sha Liu Yi San (Cinnabar Six-to-One Powder) to eradicate the root, with no dietary restrictions. This herb blooms white flowers like snow dots in June.
Another prescription: Qian Cao (Rubiae Cordifoliae Radix) 1 liang, She Gan (Belamcandae Rhizoma) 5 qian, Zi Zhu Gen (Bamboo Root) 1 liang, Deng Xin (Junci Medullia) one pill as a guide, decoct in water and drink.
