Mr. Li said: Among my traveling companions, there was someone suffering from a back carbuncle that had extensively ulcerated, leaving only the diaphragm separating the five Zang organs; he believed he would certainly die. Using a crucian carp cleaned of its entrails and stuffed, dried over sheep manure until dry and ground into powder, applied dry to the wound, the sore naturally closed. This comes from the Fangshu of Mr. Hong, has been used frequently with good results. Therefore, it is attached here; it must be used when pus is scant and muscle regeneration is about to begin.
Treats Ji Du (Boils and Toxins). Use Yangjiao (Cornu Ovis Caprae, burned with flesh and bone to retain efficacy) ground into powder, mixed with wine to take 3 qian, divided for administration to the upper and lower body; the sore toxin can dissipate.
Lizhai (Xue Ji) said: I have never used this formula; it is likely a secret prescription. I once treated sudden red spots on the face or body, or itching, or diao du (carcinoid/toxic boils), all of which could be treated. Alternatively, burn Yangjiao (Cornu Ovis Caprae) to retain efficacy, grind into an extremely fine powder, mix with egg white, apply topically; it is very effective. The Bencao also states this.
