The toxic fire rushes upward. Fortunately, the Heart (君主之官, ruler of the organs) does not accept the pathogenic factor, but it reversely invades the Jueyin Liver channel. Consequently, both eyes become red and swollen like peaches, and in severe cases, the eyeballs protrude. However, eye diseases caused by other conditions are confined to the eyes themselves. In Sha disease (a category of acute febrile diseases characterized by skin eruptions or toxicity), there is always mental restlessness, which leads to ocular disorders. If not treated early, the Sha toxin will invade the Yang regions (upper body and exterior), and the fire intensity will be extreme. Mildly, it damages the eyes; severely, it causes death. One should first puncture the vertex to drain the toxic qi, using a formula that clears fire, invigorates blood, and regulates qi, adding Achyranthes Root (Niuxi) and Dendrobium Stem (Shihu) to guide the fire back to its source. After taking the medicine, the protruding eyeballs can retract. If both eyes are intensely red, even developing cataracts or nebulae, this indicates residual Sha toxin lingering in the Liver. Use "Ge San Cun" (a specific herbal preparation or herb abbreviation from the text) combined with Juncus Effusus (Dengxin Cao) and Hibiscus Mutabilis Leaf (Bai Furong Ye), decocted in water and taken warm.
A woman suffered from headache and fever, with her eyeball protruding by half an inch, unbearable pain, and worsening symptoms under ophthalmological treatment. I administered one needle at the Dingmen point (vertex), two needles each at the Taiyang, Jingming, and Hegu points. The pain decreased by half. Subsequently, I administered Sha disease medication, which retracted the eyeball and stopped the pain. Unfortunately, the treatment was too late, resulting in blindness.
Using "Ge Si Fang" yields miraculous effects.
When the Sha toxin has completely subsided but stasis remains in the chest and diaphragm causing pain, use Shixiao San.
If Sha disease obstructs menstruation, or causes epistaxis or hematemesis, accompanied by abdominal distension and inability to turn over, these are the signs. Even if the abdomen is not painful, it is still considered "Hidden Sha." If aggressive treatment damages the zang-fu organs, it becomes incurable. Urgent Sha release (bloodletting or detoxification techniques) is required, followed by medication (refer to "Ge Wu").
Pregnant women contracting Sha disease are prone to fetal injury, while postpartum women must guard against Ezu (nausea/vomiting or complications related to lochia). Rescue and treatment are particularly urgent. If Hidden Sha erupts suddenly, the pulse of pre-natal Sha disease mixes with pregnancy pulses, and post-partum Sha pulses mix with Ezu pulses. Without distinct heart or abdominal pain as reference, one must carefully investigate symptoms, observe voice and complexion, and check for Sha veins (visible subcutaneous veins). Urgent puncturing is necessary, combining skin and meridian treatments. If the zang-fu organs are damaged by excessive aggression, recovery is impossible.
Pre-natal Sha pain involves terrifying cramping and twisting. All fetal-anchoring herbs such as Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome (Baizhu), Angelica Sinensis Radix (Danggui), and Poria (Fuling) are strictly contraindicated for Sha disease. Conversely, Qi-breaking and Blood-invigorating agents used to treat Sha are taboo for the fetus. One must balance these considerations: for invigorating blood and resolving toxicity, use Chrysanthemum Flower (Jinyinhua - *Note: Text says Yinhua, likely Jin Yin Hua*), Salvia Miltiorrhiza Radix (Danshen), Motherwort Herba (Yimucao), Safflower Flos (Honghua), and Eucommia Bark (Sangjisheng); for regulating Qi, use Cyperi Rhizoma (Xiangfu), Citrus Reticulata Pericarpium (Chenpi), Magnolia Officinalis Bark (Zhoupu/Pohu), Amomum Fruit (Sharen), and Lindera Root (Wuyao); for dispersing Sha, use Schizonepeta Spike (Jingjie), Saposhnikovia Root (Fangfeng), Angelica Pubescens Radix (Duhuo), and Asarum Root (Xixin); for resolving food stagnation, use Hawthorn Fruit (Zha), Radish Seed (Bo), Medicated Leaven (Shenqu), and Malt (Maiya). Selecting from these is the safest approach. If the condition is severe and unresponsive, cautiously use only one or two herbs, as excessive aggression may harm the fetal Qi. Caution is essential (Refer to "Ge Liu"; use Honghua and Xixin in small doses).
A woman at six months of gestation experienced alternating chills and fever, mental restlessness, and Sha disease in its initial stage without visible eruption. Medication was ineffective, and she suddenly fell into lethargy. On the second day, her left wrist pulse was deep and hidden, and her face and eyes were slightly dark. I administered six needles at the popliteal fossa (leg bend). She improved slightly and stabilized after taking "Ge Liu Fang." Later, Xiao Chai Hu Tang was used to resolve the fever, followed by Ginseng Radix (Renshen), Poria (Fuling), Angelica Sinensis Radix (Danggui), and Rehmannia Root (Dihuang) to strengthen the Spleen and nourish the Blood, leading to full recovery.
