Preserve genuine carp gallbladders in advance, and hang them in a ventilated place to dry in the shade.
This prescription is universally applicable for treating various throat diseases. In cases where double or single tonsillar swelling (Shuangdan E) obstructs the throat and the jaw is locked tight, preventing oral medication intake (for both men and women), blow a small amount of the medicinal powder into the (left or right) nostrils as a preventive measure against suffocation.
This medicine is extremely effective. Among the following ingredients, only Tooth Soap (Ya Zao, also known as Gleditsia Sinensis Fruit), Green Olive (Qing Guo), and Dark Plum (Wu Mei) may be exposed to fire; all other herbs should be sun-dried, ground into fine powder, stored in porcelain bottles, sealed with yellow beeswax, and kept ready for use without letting air escape (Tooth Soap is also known as Zao Jia).
Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba) 5 qian, Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix) 2 qian, Pengsha (Borax) 2 qian, Ebushicao (Centipedae Herba) 2 qian, Yueshi 1 qian (i.e., Mangxiao, Natrii Sulfas), Dadihuang Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix) 2 liang. Mash thoroughly and mix with the medicines to form pills the size of longan seeds. Allow them to dissolve naturally in the mouth.
Another prescription: Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba) 3 fen, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 3 fen, Meihua Bingpian (Borneolum Syntheticum) 1 fen, Xiguashuang (Citrulli Fructus Frost) 1 fen. Grind into an extremely fine powder and insufflate into the affected area.
Cut several strands of Juncus effusus (Dengcao), wrap them around fingernails, and hold them over fire to smoke until they turn yellow and dry. Grind these two materials together into a fine powder. Then, using heat, extract ten Bedbugs (Bishi, i.e., Cimex lectularius).
This condition is common among porters. Wupeizi (Galae Chinensis) is burnt until it retains its properties, then ground into a fine powder. Add Huangdan (Lithargyri) and process via water flotation. Mix with vinegar and apply externally; it is very effective.
Another prescription: Treat according to various prescriptions for carbuncles and toxins.
(Treat according to various prescriptions for wind-stroke affecting muscles and bones.)
It occurs on fingers and toes. When this condition first appears, the pain is severe. Immediately tie the base of the finger with hair. Take one toad (avoid those with red eyes and no 'eight-character' pattern on the belly). Remove the internal organs (do not rupture the gallbladder, as bile sticking to the finger causes more pain). Place the toad over the sore head and tie it securely. Roast the toad's heart and liver until dry, grind into powder, and take with wine to prevent toxic vapors from attacking the heart. After about one shichen (two hours), the sore will burst and discharge pus, leading to recovery. After placing the toad, the sore feels like needle pricks, causing unbearable pain, possibly accompanied by mental distress, generalized fever, vomiting, or nausea. Do not panic. Immediately take Huxin San (see prescriptions for carbuncles and toxins) or drink one zhan of sesame oil (rapeseed oil is also acceptable); the mind will stabilize. The toad can extract extreme toxicity; do not remove it lightly. Endure for a moment, and it will naturally burst and discharge pus. If mistakenly removed, other medicines may fail to cure it, causing significant harm. If faintness or dizziness occurs after pus drainage, do not panic. Boil 3-4 qian of Korean Ginseng (Gaoli Shen) in a clay pot to make a concentrated decoction and drink it; this will resolve the issue. Ginseng should not be steamed; if steamed, it takes time to release juice and yields a pale tea-colored liquid. Decocting yields a rich color and faster efficacy. For those unable to afford it, 1-2 liang of good Dangshen (Codonopsis Radix) decocted and taken orally is also acceptable. If swelling and pain recur after healing, it indicates residual toxic vapors. Apply the toad again; once pus is fully discharged, it will not recur. This sore is extremely malignant and yin-type; this prescription is miraculous and must not be underestimated.
Another prescription: Use the lower part of Impatiens balsamina (Fengxianhua) including roots (do not wash with water) and mash it with sweet fermented rice wine (Tianjiuzao) for external application. Someone had a finger sore swollen like a plum, with unbearable pain. Applying this reduced swelling and stopped pain within half a day, which is even faster than the toad prescription.
Another prescription: Puncture the sore with a porcelain shard, then treat according to the spider detoxification method found in the Carbuncle and Ding Chuang prescriptions (see Carbuncles, Toxins, Ding Chuang section). It stops pain and reduces swelling effectively.
Another prescription: Roast centipede (Wugong) until dry, grind into powder, and mix with pig bile for topical application. It is miraculous.
Another prescription: Make a small hole in one egg, insert 1 fen of Xinshi (Arsenic Trioxide), and place it over the finger. Replace when hot. It stops pain instantly like magic. It is truly a celestial prescription, more effective than previous ones.
Another prescription: Equal parts of Xionghuang (Realgar) and Kufan (Alumen) ground into powder. Apply mixed with sesame oil or vinegar. It is also very effective.
Another prescription: Hollow out a white radish, insert 3 fen of Xionghuang (Realgar), steam until half-cooked, and place it over the finger. Alternatively, chew fresh Wu Mei (Dark Plum) kernel and apply. Both are highly effective.
Another prescription: If the color is white, treat according to Yanghe Tang and other prescriptions for Tuogu Ju (Bone-Stripping Ulcer).
