If tea or alcohol has been consumed first, it becomes difficult to treat. For formulas regarding itchy and painful throat with hoarseness, see below.
For all acute throat conditions, whether obstructed or painful, knives and needles are strictly contraindicated to avoid perforation. Quickly strangle both arms with your hands forty to fifty times to drive blood to the thumbs, tie tightly with a hair-binding rope, and prick the Shaoshang acupoint (located at the midpoint between the medial and lateral nail folds of the thumb) with a needle to bleed.
Another formula: Apply a small amount of oil to the posterior neck fossa, scrape with a copper coin as if performing Gua Sha (scraping therapy) (scrape in the direction of flow, never against it); the pain will subside.
Another formula: Grind raw Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) into powder (or use Wuyu (Evodiae Fructus)), mix with hot vinegar, and apply to the soles of both feet. It is extremely effective for both excess heat and deficiency heat throat pain.

Another formula: For throat obstruction, lockjaw, unconsciousness, crush Baidu (Crotonis Fructus), wrap in cotton paper, press to extract oil, form into a wick, ignite, blow out, and smoke into the nose so that the smoke enters the throat. Immediate expectoration of phlegm and foul blood leads to cure; this is miraculous.
Another formula: In any throat condition, if chest tightness and shortness of breath precede by one or two days, followed by sudden throat pain, cold limbs, and Qi closure, this is a critical condition. Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis) is strictly contraindicated as ingestion is fatal; only using the previously mentioned Zaojiao powder (Gleditsiae Sinensis Spina) orally is most effective.

At noon on the Dragon Boat Festival, cut off the head, scoop out the pulp, fill with Xiaofan (Natrii Sulfas), replace the head, seal with a bamboo pin, and hang under the eaves away from sunlight. When frost forms on the outside, brush it off, mix with Bingpian (Borneolum Syntheticum), grind to powder, and insufflate onto the lesion. It stops pain miraculously. Contraindicated for deficiency heat throat conditions.
Another formula: Luoboying (Radish Greens): Throat diseases occurring in March and April are due to winter cold qi stagnation manifesting in spring. Buy radish greens early in winter, spread them on tiled roofs (hanging on bamboo poles in the open air is better), let them endure wind, frost, rain, and snow without harvesting. Harvest before the start of Spring, dry in shade without sunlight. In February and March, chop finely, steam with sauce or salt over rice, and eat as a daily vegetable. This prevents throat issues for the whole family. For those suffering from Houfeng (wind-throat) etc., decoct this vegetable in water to drink; it is very effective. Also treats Li Ji (dysentery).

Suzi Tang: Treats Suohou (locking throat), Chanhou (wrapping throat), Ru'e (tonsillitis), and obstruction by wind-fire. This is a highly effective formula by Linwu Shanshan. Two qian each of Suzi (Perillae Fructus), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), and Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra); one qian each of Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix) and Gancao (Licorice Root); one qian five fen each of Yuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), and Zhebei (Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus). Decoct and take.
