If gravel or stones are passed in the urine, and the patient feels as if dying immediately after passing them, this is caused by latent heat from previous conditions lingering in the intestines, where it clashes with body fluids to form stones. Palpation of the pulse reveals a scattered (San), choppy (Se) quality without regularity; this condition is termed Stone Lin (Urinary Calculi).
Hupo (Succinite), Moyao (Myrrh), Ruxiang (Frankincense), Puhuang (Tiger Lily Pollen), Baibu End (Stemona Root Powder), Tao Jiao (Peach Gum), Yuli Ren (Prunus Persica Seed, soaked in decoction, skin removed, ground, mixed with a little flour, ground evenly until dry). Take equal parts of the above, grind evenly. Mix one qian with warm wine for oral administration, taken on an empty stomach. Prior to this, use a guiding medicine: one good walnut, roasted until "preserving its nature" (charred outside but retaining internal properties), finely ground and mixed with one cup of wine for administration. After some time, administer Qibao San.
If blood flows out with the urine, causing pain with each urination, this is due to heart Qi retaining heat that clashes with the Small Intestine. Since the Heart governs Blood, when encountering heat, the blood scatters and渗 (seeps) into the Bladder. Palpation of the Heart pulse reveals a large (Da), scattered (San), and rapid (Shu) quality.
It is appropriate to use Dihuang (Rehmannia Root), Zhuling (Polyporus), Fuling (Poria), Zexie (Alisma), Huashi (Talcum), Ejiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin, 4 fen each), and Cheqianzi (Plantago Seed, 2 fen). Grind the above into a coarse powder. For each dose, take 5 qian, add two zhan of water, boil down to one zhan, remove the dregs, and take warm. Administer at any time.
To treat stagnant and obstructed urination with difficulty and pain.
Kuizi (Abelmoschus Manihot Seed), Cheqianzi (Plantago Seed), Fuling (Poria), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Mutong (Akebia Stem), Chishao Yao (Red Peony Root). Take equal parts of the above, grind into a fine powder. For each dose, take 2 qian, mix with wine for oral administration.
Another prescription:
If there is slight pain upon urination, gradually becoming difficult, with frequent urges to urinate but inability to pass, accompanied by unbearable pain, this is also due to heat in the Heart and Small Intestine. Heat in the intestines causes sluggish transmission, or it may result from taking Wushi San (Five-Mineral Powder) and related substances.
Chifuling (Red Poria), Kuizi (Abelmoschus Manihot Seed), Shiwei (Pyrola Leaf), Zexie (Alisma), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome, 1 liang each; Shiwei and Zexie half liang each). Grind the above into a coarse powder. For each dose, take 5 qian, add two zhan of water, boil down to one zhan, remove the dregs, and take warm after meals.
To treat urinary frequency caused by Bladder Cold (Another formula: Fupenzi [Rubus Fruit], 2 liang).
Yizhi Ren (Alpinia Oxyphylla Fruit, 2.5 liang), Shichangpu (Acorus Tatarinowii Rhizome, 1 liang), Bailonggu (Fossilized Bones, 3 fen), Chuan Wutou (Aconitum Carmichaelii Lateral Root, 1 liang, raw, skin and umbilicus removed, chopped, stir-fried with 1 liang of Moli Fen [Oyster Shell Powder]). Grind the above into a fine powder. Use wine-boiled wheat paste to make pills the size of Sophora seeds. For each dose, take 40 pills on an empty stomach, administered with a decoction of Yizhi Ren.
To treat deficiency-heat causing clear, profuse urination, or when exposure to wind and cold triggers Hongxiangjiao (Gouty Arthritis/Foot Swelling), combined with Xiao Ke (Wasting-Thirst) and Xiao Shen (Kidney Wasting). If the pulse is thin and weak, administering this decoction will yield immediate results.
Ejiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin, half liang), Ganjiang (Dried Ginger, 7 liang), Maziren (Hemp Seed), Yuanzhi (Polygala Root, 1.5 liang each), Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root, 1 piece). Grind the above into a coarse powder. For each dose, take 3 qian, add two zhan of water, boil down to one zhan, and take. It is said that for cases of excessive urination, occurring dozens of times day and night, even uncountable, frequent administration of this formula is effective.
