To treat all eye diseases.
Take powdered Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian, 黄连) and去皮 ground Semen Pruni (Ruren, 蕤仁), in equal parts. Take two Jujubae Fructus (Dazao, 大枣), cut off a small piece of the top, remove the pit, fill the cavity with the medicine, replace the top, wrap in cotton, decoct in a silver pot with one bowl of water until less than half remains, filter, let cool, and wash the eyes; immediate effect. (Use large and well-shaped Jujubae Fructus).
To treat all external obstructions and other syndromes, like opening a lid. This method keeps pathogenic toxins from closing up, providing an exit for them. However, the force is slight yet sharp; efficacy follows the condition, so it is advisable to constantly gather its strength.
Polygoni Avicularis Herba (Ebucaicao, 鹅不食草) (2 qian), Indigo Naturalis (Qingdai, 青黛) (1 qian), Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong, 川芎) (1 qian).
Grind the above into fine powder. First, hold a mouthful of water in the mouth. Use an amount the size of a rice grain each time, insufflate into the nose, stopping when tears flow.
Green翳青盲 (Lüqi Qingmang, greenish opacity obscuring vision), fly-wing shadows flying across, dilated pupil, redness around the cornea (Baolun Hongchi, 抱轮红赤), constricted pupil, dimness due to excessive blood loss, reversed pupil (Wangxue Guobei, 瞳神返背), ability to see far but not near, defective pupil, ability to see near but not far, damaged pupil, maternal wind syndrome in women (Furen Taifeng, 妇人胎风), empty and scattered pupil, retrograde menstruation with bleeding, visual hallucinations upon sitting up, corneal opacities from childhood smallpox, blindness (Qingmang, 青盲), corneal opacities, childhood malnutrition affecting eyes (Xiao'er Gan Shang, 小儿疳伤), cold tears flowing frequently, black mist obscuring vision, dizziness with eye rotation, night blindness (Quemu, 雀目) occurring at night, dark wind (Wufeng, 乌风) occurring frequently, inability to gaze for long periods.
Internal obstructions often arise because the pupil is neither red nor swollen, leading people to neglect it; if untreated for a long time, it becomes a chronic disease. The pupil belongs to the Kidney and connects to the Gallbladder. The most sensitive part of the body is this pupil. The most important meridian is the Kidney Meridian, illustrating the principle that "Liver and Kidney share the same source" (Yi Gui Tong Yuan, 乙癸同源). People may have Yin deficiency or Yang deficiency. Yin deficiency means Water fails to nourish Wood; mild fire carries Liver Wood qi upward and flares up. Since the Liver opens into the eyes, the eyes become diseased. The Kidney Meridian is like the Taiji diagram, containing both Water and Fire. The right Kidney belongs to Yang Water, the left Kidney to Yin Water, and the Mingmen (Gate of Life, 命门)'s mild fire is centered. Mild fire is Yang; with one Yang trapped between two Yins, it forms the Kan trigram image, hence the I Ching states "Heaven generates One as Water." When Water and Fire are harmonious, the body's channels are unobstructed. However, Spleen Earth cannot be generated without mild fire, and Liver Wood cannot be nourished without Kidney Water. When Spleen Qi is sufficient, Lung Metal is naturally produced; when Liver Qi is abundant, Heart Fire is naturally supported. Thus, the Kidney is the source of the five Zang organs. The so-called primordial true Qi, which creates life and sustains existence, lies precisely here. Therefore, for those lacking Water, strengthen the master of Water to suppress solar flare (hyperactivity); for those lacking Fire, benefit the source of Fire to eliminate yin shadows (cold-dampness). This applies not only to eye diseases but can be extrapolated to other conditions. Here, Water and Fire refer to formless Water and Fire, i.e., primordial True Yin and True Yang. For Yin deficiency, tonify Yin; for Yang deficiency, tonify Yang. Consult pulse diagnosis to avoid error. If Water and Fire are deficient, the pupil suffers disease, becoming internal obstructions and other syndromes. Internal obstruction is caused by blood deficiency and mental fatigue, resulting in Kidney deficiency. The treatment method should be to nourish blood and tonify Yin, calm the spirit and brighten the eyes. Primarily use Jiadi Dihuang Wan (Modified Rehmannia Pill, 加减地黄丸), taken on an empty stomach, combined with Wubao Dan (Five Treasures Pill, 五宝丹), taken after meals, to achieve miraculous effects. Alternatively, use Qianjin Cizhu Dan (Thousand Gold Magnetite and Cinnabar Pill, 千金磁朱丹) or Shihu Yeguang Wan (Dendrobium Night-Light Pill, 石斛夜光丸), taken continuously, or select from subsequent prescriptions.
