This medicine has a neutral nature and can be used for both cold and heat syndromes.
Chenpi (aged tangerine peel), Banxia (Pinellia Rhizoma processed with ginger juice seven times), Baifuling (Poria Cocos with wood), Gancao (Licorice Root). Use three slices of Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) as a guiding herb, decoct in one cup of water and take before meals. If vomiting is severe, add Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) and Wei Ganjiang (Baked Dried Ginger); these two are essential herbs for treating vomiting. For vomiting accompanied by heat signs, add Wei Ganjiang (Baked Dried Ginger) and Chao Huanglian (Stir-fried Coptis Rhizome). If caused by food stagnation, add Shenqu (Medicated Leaven), Chao Maiya (Stir-fried Hordeum Sprout), Sharen (Amomum Fruit), Xiangfuzi (Cyperi Rhizoma), and Shanzha (Crataegus Fruit). These five are essential herbs for resolving food stagnation.
The ancestral method for treating vomiting uses only Weiling Wan (Weiling Pill), swallowed with a decoction of Wei Ganjiang (Baked Dried Ginger), regardless of cold or heat syndromes.
If vomiting persists, medication is ineffective, and restlessness develops, it is incurable. If vomiting persists and the eyes roll upward, it is incurable. If the head tilts backward, it is incurable.
Xijiang Yue:
The causes of vomiting are diverse; practitioners must distinguish the root cause. "Ou" (retching) involves sound and matter occurring simultaneously; "Tu" (vomiting) involves matter without sound. There is also the condition of sound without matter, named "Yue" (dry heaving/hiccup-like retching), which requires differentiated syndrome treatment and separate medication administration, sometimes making it difficult to intervene.
Cold Vomiting: Milk and food are not digested, abdominal distension and panting occur incessantly, the face is pale, eyes are dull, there is much sighing, and vomitus contains undigested food and clear fluid. This is due to wind-cold invading the stomach or damage from consuming raw/cold foods. Or it is due to retained milk stagnating in the stomach causing deficiency, leading to inability to retain milk/food and subsequent vomiting.
Heat Vomiting: Lips are red, face is flushed, although milk/food enters and is digested, the vomitus is yellow, the whole body feels hot, there is excessive thirst, and irritability. This is due to summer-heat in the stomach or damage from consuming hot-natured foods, causing stomach qi to become disharmonious due to heat, leading to rebellious qi and vomiting.
How to distinguish Food Stagnation Vomiting? Eyelids are puffy, complexion is slightly yellow, feet are cold while the abdomen is abnormally hot, symptoms are lighter during the day and heavier at night, resembling bewitchment. This is due to retained cold stagnating in the spleen and stomach, resulting in vomiting of yellow acidic fluids or foul-smelling sour regurgitation, indicating injury from retained food.
For infants vomiting due to overfeeding milk, the signs and symptoms require careful observation. Vomiting occurs immediately after feeding or stops after a short pause. This is due to unregulated milk intake and weak spleen qi unable to handle it. Quickly offer an empty bottle for the infant to suckle; if vomiting stops upon clearing the breast channel, it is optimal.
Since vomiting syndromes are clearly distinguished, treatment methods must be precise. For Cold Vomiting, Lizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction) is most suitable. For Heat Vomiting, Wuling San (Five-Ling Powder) with Gui Zhi (Cinnamon Twig) removed. For Food Stagnation Vomiting, Jiuzhuan Lingying Dan (Nine-Turn Efficacious Pill); after purging, regulate with Zhizhu Wan (Immature Bitter Orange and Atractylodes Pill). For vomiting due to milk injury, the unique prescription is Sanleng San (Sanleng Powder), which is most effective.
When vomiting prevents retention of milk and food, even herbal decoctions cannot be tolerated; this is termed Yin excess repelling isolated Yang. Contemporary physicians often lack direction. Renshen (Ginseng Root), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Wei Jiang (Baked Ginger), Shu Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Lateral Root), Wu Mei (Mume Fruit), and Tongbian (Child's Urine) are excellent. Adding Zhu Dan (Pig Gallbladder) and processing slowly yields effects as immediate as shadow and echo.
For cases where all anti-emetic drugs are rejected, I have a superior miraculous formula, Dingtu Yinzi (Vomiting-Stabilizing Drink), which is extraordinarily effective. Banxia (Pinellia Rhizoma) and Guanzi Gui (Cassia Bark) are the two main ingredients; Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) should be used generously, while Gancao (Licorice Root) should be used sparingly. Prepare according to the formula, decoct in water, and use Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) as the best adjunct.
The first category is vomiting of roundworms, indicating many worms involving the Jueyin (Terminal Yin) channel; Wumei Wan (Mume Pill) is efficacious as if divine, calming worms and stopping vomiting with one dose. For coughing accompanied by vomiting, resolve phlegm and smooth qi must be clearly understood. For ordinary vomiting, simply use Weiling Wan (Weiling Pill), with Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) as the guiding herb in the decoction.
Regarding persistent vomiting, explain clearly to the physician: if standard medicines fail and irritability/confusion worsens, and vomiting continues unabated with eyes rolling upward, the situation is critical. If the head tilts back as if the soul is flying away, prepare for the end.
Additionally, regarding nausea: it may be due to phlegm, heat, or deficiency. Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) is universally applicable for these three conditions. Medications should be prescribed according to the specific syndrome. If there is heat in the stomach, add Fuling (Poria Cocos) and Huanglian (Coptis Rhizoma) to Erchen Tang (Two-Aged Decoction), stir-fry with ginger juice, decoct together, using 3 grams (one qian) of each for best results.
