Shenxian Diaogu Dan (Immortal Bone-Fishing Elixir): Treats various cases of bones or fishbones stuck in the throat. The stuck bone will naturally be expelled with the medication or vomited out, with miraculous efficacy.
Ingredients: Cinnabar (Zhusha), Clove (Dingxiang) (each 1 qian), Dragon's Blood (Xuejie), Magnetite (Cishi), Fossilized Bones (Longgu) (each 5 qian).
Preparation and Administration: Grind the above herbs into a fine powder. Use 3 qian of beeswax to form pills, coated with Cinnabar powder. Take one pill per dose, swallowed with vinegar fried in sesame oil. If emesis is desired, consume vinegar decocted with Anhe (Brachychiton populneus fruit); subsequently drink strong tea. If Anhe is unavailable, substitute with Tung Oil (Tongyou).
Treating various bones stuck in the throat: Blowing ivory powder into the throat yields excellent results. Alternatively, hang a dog upside down, collect its saliva in a bowl, and slowly swallow it; the bone will dissolve into water, with miraculous efficacy. Another method: fill a bamboo tube with rush pith (Dengxin), burn it to ash, take the rush ash, dissolve it in rice sugar solution, and administer orally, ensuring it does not touch the teeth.
Treating bone impaction in the throat: Chew large amounts of Baiyi Fen (Starch from Glutinous Rice) and swallow; the bone will descend. Alternatively, use large pieces of Borax (Pengsha), wash clean with water, hold in the mouth to dissolve and swallow throughout day and night; the bone will naturally soften.
Treating chicken bones or charred bones stuck in the throat: Pound plum meat (from frosted plums) into finger-sized balls, wrap in cotton cloth, thread through the meat ball with a string, and send down with cold tea. Hold the end of the string in hand; upon vomiting, the bone will be pulled out. Alternatively, lightly crush Coriander (Huxu), mix with vinegar including the dregs, and swallow; the bone will descend.
The "Five Extremes" (Wujue) refer to five conditions appearing as death but where Qi has not completely ceased: First, hanging by strangulation (Ziyi), Qi has ceased; Second, crushed by falling walls or collapsing houses, Qi has ceased; Third, drowning (Nishui), Qi has ceased; Fourth, nightmare death (Yansi), Qi has ceased; Fifth, death during childbirth (Chanru), Qi has ceased. These can all be rescued. This also applies to sudden death and stroke leading to unconsciousness. Grind Pinellia Rhizome (Banxia) into powder, blow a dose the size of a soybean into the nose; the patient will revive. If the heart area remains warm, treatment within one day is possible.
First, for those who hanged themselves: From dawn to dusk, even if the body has cooled, they can be treated; from dusk to dawn, it is difficult to treat. This is due to the prevalence of Yin Qi. However, in summer, nights are shorter than days and the weather is hot, so treatment should still be attempted. It is said: If the lower chest remains slightly warm, treatment is possible for more than a day. Slowly untie the victim; do not cut the rope or move them up and down. Place them on a bed lying down. One person steps on the victim's shoulders while pulling their hair, maintaining constant tension without slackening; another person presses and rubs the chest; a third person massages and flexes/extends the arms and legs. If the body is stiff, gradually force flexion and press the abdomen. After a short while, although breath may exit the mouth and eyes may open, continue pressing and do not neglect the patient, nor exhaust the rescuers. After a moment, if revival occurs, feed warm porridge. Have two people blow air into both ears using tubes; this method is most effective.
Second, regarding hanging victims: Do not cut the rope. It is suitable to press firmly against the anus (Gudao) using knees or hands wrapped in thick clothing, lift the victim, untie the rope, and lay them down. Rub the neck marks, stimulate the nose, and blow into both ears. Wait until Qi returns before releasing pressure. If Qi dissipates prematurely, rescue is impossible.
Third, for hanging victims: Calmly and gently untie them; do not cut the rope. If the lower chest is still warm, drip blood from a rooster comb into the mouth to revive. For males, use hen's comb blood; for females, use rooster's comb blood. Another prescription: Use Chicken Droppings White (Jishibai), size of a jujube, mixed with half a cup of wine, instilled into the nose; this is especially effective. *Qianjin Fang* suggests using Orchid Juice (Lanzhi); other methods are the same.
Fourth, for those crushed by falls: If the heart area is warm, rescue is possible. Position the victim sitting like a monk meditating. Have one person pull the head low. Blow Pinellia Rhizome (Banxia) powder into the nose. If revived, administer a mixture of Ginger Juice (Shengjiangzhi) and clear oil.
Fifth, prescription for saving drowning victims: Bury the victim in two loads of ash from the kitchen stove, covering from head to toe. If fluid drains from the seven orifices, the victim will revive.
Sixth, for drowning victims: Lay them supine on a long bench, elevate the feet by two bricks. Apply salt to rub the umbilicus (Qihai/CV8 area). Wait for water to flow out naturally; do not invert the body. Water exits via these pathways. If the heart area retains slight warmth, rescue is possible. Another method: Victims drowned overnight may still survive. Grind Sophora Fruit (Zaocao) into powder, wrap in cotton, insert into the rectum. After a moment, when water flows out, the victim revives. Another method: Quickly loosen the deceased's clothes and belts, moxa-ignite the umbilicus (Qihai/CV8) to revive.
Seventh, saving from nightmare death (Yansi) with unconsciousness or evil qi invasion (Zhong'e). Grind Sophora Fruit (Zaocao) into powder, blow a dose the size of a mung bean into the nose to induce sneezing; Qi will unblock and the patient will revive.
Eighth, for nightmare death: Do not approach and call out loudly. Instead, bite the heel forcefully and spit on the face. For those unconscious, slightly change their position and call them slowly. Keep existing lamps lit; do not light new ones. Blow Sophora Fruit (Zaocao) powder into both nostrils to revive.
Ninth, sudden muteness during sleep: Do not shine fire/light on the patient, as it may cause death. Bite the nail edge of the thumb forcefully and spit on the face to revive. Instill Leek Juice (Jiucaizhi) into the nasal cavity. In winter, use juice extracted from Leek Roots (Jiucai Gen) administered orally.
Tenth, sudden nightmare (Yan): Blow Realgar Powder (Xionghuang) into the nasal cavity to revive.
Eleventh, fall from height with blood stasis attacking the heart, near death. Decoct one cup of Fermented Soybean (Danshidou), strain, and drink. If immediately unable to speak due to weak Qi, and medicine cannot be obtained in time, pry open the mouth and administer hot urine.
Twelfth, saving from winter drowning/freeze death: For those with cold limbs, inability to speak, and only faint Qi, do not apply heat/fire immediately. Place a bag of hot ashes on the heart area; replace with fresh hot ashes when cool. Once eyes open, administer warm wine or Ginger Soup.
Thirteenth, saving from heatstroke death: Do not use cold water; cold exposure causes death. Use warm water to frequently wash and massage the chest and abdomen. If on the road, urgently place hot earth from the roadside on the umbilicus. Urinate into the umbilicus to revive. Another method: Mix equal parts of hot roadside earth and Garlic (Dasuan), grind, mix with water, strain, and drink to revive.
