The Taiyang (Greater Yang) Bladder Meridian is affected by Cold Damage, presenting with stiffness and pain in the head and neck, pain in the lower back and spine, absence of sweating, and aversion to cold. The areas where its meridian qi flows and distributes are the same as those in Wind Strike, but the pulse differs, manifesting as floating, excessive, tight, or rapid. This is because the Taiyang Water Meridian governs the Qi of all Yang meridians; therefore, Cold Evil attacks it first.
For the treatment of Taiyang Cold Damage, characterized by a floating, tight, and rapid pulse, headache, body ache, fever, aversion to cold, absence of sweating, chest fullness, and wheezing:
Ma Huang (Ephedrae Herba, removed nodes), 1 liang; Gu Xin (Cinnamomi Ramulus), 1 liang; Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried), 0.5 liang; Xing Ren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), 25 grains.
Preparation and Administration: Coarsely crush the herbs. Take 5 qian per dose, boil in 1.5 sheng of water until reduced to 0.8 sheng, strain, and take before meals. Cover with blankets to induce slight sweating. In summer, add Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), 0.5 liang; Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum), 1 liang; Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix), 1 fen. Alternatively, if after sweating there is no high fever but wheezing persists, remove Gui Xin and add Shi Gao, 4 liang.
For the treatment of Cold Damage where the exterior syndrome has not resolved, fluid retention exists in the epigastrium, accompanied by dry retching, fever and cough, thirst, diarrhea, a sensation of obstruction in the throat, dysuria, lower abdominal fullness, and wheezing:
Ma Huang (Ephedrae Herba, removed nodes), 3 liang; Xi Xin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, removed seedlings), 3 liang; Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, processed), 3 liang; Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried), 3 liang; Gu Xin (Cinnamomi Ramulus), 3 liang; Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), 3 liang; Ban Xia (Pinelliae Tuber, washed with boiling water to remove slipperiness), 2.5 liang; Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Fructus), 2.5 liang.
Preparation and Administration: Coarsely crush the herbs. Take 5 qian per dose, boil in 2 sheng of water until reduced to 0.8 sheng, strain, and take warm before meals. If there is a sensation of obstruction in the throat, remove Ma Huang and add Shu Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), 1 qian. If there is dysuria and lower abdominal fullness, add Fu Ling (Poria), 1 qian. If there is wheezing, add Xing Ren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, skin and tips removed), 7 grains.
When inducing sweating, one should not sweat excessively, as excessive sweating leads to the loss of Yang Qi. It is advisable to use this powder applied to the body for immediate recovery, with miraculous efficacy.
Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma); Ben Cao (Ligustici Rhizoma et Radix); Chuan Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma); Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into powder. Mix 1 liang of this powder with 3 liang of rice flour evenly, and apply as a dusting powder.
For the treatment of Taiyang Wind Strike combined with Cold Damage, presenting with a tight pulse, fever, aversion to cold, body ache, anhidrosis, irritability, and thirst; or a floating and slow pulse, body heaviness without pain, which occasionally alleviates; or Cold Damage showing Wind pulses, or Wind Strike showing Cold pulses:
Ma Huang (Ephedrae Herba, removed nodes), 3 liang; Gu Xin (Cinnamomi Ramulus), 1 liang; Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried), 1 liang; Xing Ren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, skin and tips removed), 1 liang; Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum), 1 liang.
Preparation and Administration: Coarsely crush into a powder. Take 5 qian bi per dose, boil with 1.5 sheng of water, 5 slices of fresh ginger, and 1 jujube, until reduced to 0.7 sheng, strain, and take before meals.
The Yangming Stomach Meridian is affected by Cold Damage, presenting with body heat, eye pain, nasal dryness, inability to sleep, absence of aversion to cold, abdominal fullness, dry throat and mouth, and thirst. Its pulse flow characteristics are similar to Wind Strike; since the Yangming Meridian governs the muscles, the pathogen transmits to it sequentially.
