Treats various deficiencies and insufficiencies, manifesting as urgency and pain in the lower abdomen, distension in the hypochondrium, a sensation of emptiness and fullness below the umbilicus, mental restlessness and palpitations, sallow complexion, dry lips and mouth, cold extremities, spontaneous sweating, stiffness and tension in the waist and back, soreness and pain in bones and muscles, cough with asthma and fatigue, inability to eat. These conditions may arise from excessive labor injury or failure to recover after illness.
Ingredients: Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Jupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried), Fuling (Poria), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix, heart removed), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix) — each 2 liang; Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, peeled and navel removed), Shudihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata) — each 1 liang; Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber, washed with decoction), 2.5 liang; Yuanzhi (Polygalae Radix, 3 fen, heart removed).
Grind the above into a coarse powder. Take 4 qian per dose, add 1.5 zhan of water, 5 slices of fresh ginger, and 2 jujubes. Decoct until reduced to 0.7 zhan, strain, and take before meals. If there is abdominal fullness and poor appetite, remove the jujube. If there is deficiency-cold in the lower jiao, slight thirst, and frequent urination, double the dosage of Renshen, Danggui, and Fuzi. If there is irritability, thirst, and desire to drink, add Gualougen (Trichosanthis Radix). If there is seminal emission, white turbidity, add Longgu (Fossilia Ossis Mastodi et Scapulae) and Bailian (Bombycis Batryticatus? Note: Bai Lian usually refers to Paeoniae Rubra Radix or Akebiae Caulis depending on context, here likely referring to astringent herbs like Bai Lian (Akebiae Caulis) or potentially a typo for other astringents, but strictly translating entity name: Bai Lian). If there is urgency in the lower abdomen radiating to heart pain, add Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma).
Treats chronic accumulation of labor leading to deficiency and damage, manifesting as heaviness and stagnation in the four limbs, soreness and pain in bones and muscles, shallow and short breathing, asthma and cough upon movement, urgency and difficulty in urination, stiffness and pain in the waist and back, deficiency of Heart Qi causing fright and palpitations, dry throat and lips, loss of taste in food, decline of Yin and Yang, sadness and sorrow, tendency to sleep much and rise little. The course may last years if chronic, or 100 days if acute, gradually leading to emaciation and exhaustion of the Five Zang organs, making recovery difficult. Also treats deficiency of both Lung and Large Intestine, manifesting as cough, diarrhea, asthma with shortness of breath, and vomiting of phlegm-saliva.
