Generally, when blood is heated, it becomes fluid and overflows, thus appearing fresh red; when cooled, it coagulates and stagnates, thus appearing dark purple. One must carefully distinguish between wind-heat and wind-cold syndromes, which are significantly different from gu-dysentery (parasitic dysentery). Additionally, there are external hemorrhoids, blood exhaustion, internal epistaxis, wine-induced dysentery, lung abscess, accumulation of stasis in the intestines and stomach, and distant/near bloody stools, each having its own category and should not be mixed up. Ancient formulas state: for dysentery caused by accumulated cold, accumulated heat, or solid food retention, use *Dahuang Tang* (Rhubarb Decoction) to purge. The *Yangsheng Fang* also states: for severe conditions, use purgative methods. However, they fail to recognize the differences among cold, heat, wind-damp, deficiency, and excess. Later generations blindly applied these methods, causing much harm. Alas, this is truly lamentable.
