If the heat is not completely cleared, administer another pill the next day. For infants under one hundred days old, administer a pill the size of a mung bean, adjusting the dosage accordingly. There are four types of nocturnal crying in infants: first, Cold; second, Heat; third, Double Tongue and Mouth Ulcers; fourth, Ke Wu (fright caused by external influences). In Cold syndrome, abdominal pain causes crying, the face is cyanotic and pale, breath is cold, the abdomen is cold, the infant cries with a curved waist—this is Cold syndrome. In Heat syndrome, heart restlessness causes crying, the face is red, urine is dark, the mouth feels hot, the abdomen is warm, the infant may sweat while crying and cries with an arched back—this is Heat syndrome. If there is Double Tongue or Mouth Ulcers, the infant wants to nurse but cannot, crying as soon as the lips touch the nipple, with slight fever on the body and forehead. Quickly examine the mouth with a lamp; if no ulcers are seen, the tongue must be swollen. Ke Wu syndrome involves crying due to being startled by unfamiliar people or energies.
