To treat infants after birth, whose blood vessels are full and excess, presenting with alternating chills and fever, elevated body temperature (Wen Zhuang), convulsions and jerking of the four limbs, and vomiting. If the infant has already begun to accept supplementary food but suffers from food stagnation and indigestion, high fever, unresolved symptoms during the "Bian Zheng" (periodic physiological fever in infants) phase, invasion by external pathogenic factors or "Gui Qi" (malevolent spirits/energy), and various forms of epilepsy and fright.
Long Dan Cao (Gentianae Radix), Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix), Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix), Gou Teng Pi (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis Cortex), Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried), Fu Ling (Poria), each 2.5 qian; Dang Lang (Silphii Fructus), 2 pieces; Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang, wrapped in wet paper and roasted).
Crush the above ingredients into a coarse powder. Decoct with one sheng of water until reduced to five ge, constituting one dose. This is suitable for children under ten years old. For infants aged one to seven days, divide one ge into three doses; for eight to fifteen days, divide 1.5 ge into three doses; for sixteen to twenty days, divide two ge into three doses; for twenty to thirty or forty days, administer the entire five ge divided into three doses. Discontinue administration once bowel movements are achieved. This prescription is formulated specifically for newborn infants; for older infants, dosage adjustments should be made sequentially according to this example, which must be understood. In cases of Ke Wu (fright from unexpected visitors/energies) and Gui Qi invasion, add Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) and Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), each 2.5 qian; for a hundred-day-old infant, add 1 qian 1 zi; for a two-hundred-day-old infant, add 2.5 qian; for a one-year-old infant, add half a liang. The dosages of other herbs remain consistent with these standards.
Infantile malnutrition (Gan Bing) is mostly caused by premature weaning or introducing solid food too early; it may also result from long-term deficiency of the Zang-Fu organs and Stomach Qi, leading to intestinal parasites, progressive emaciation, abdominal distension preventing walking, erect hair, fever, and listlessness. Fei Er Wan (Fattening Infant Pill) is the primary treatment.
Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Shen Qu (Massa Medicata Fermentata), each 1 liang; Da Mai (Hordei Fructus Germinatus, 0.5 liang, stir-fried); Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix), 2 qian; Bing Lang (Arecae Semen, 2 pieces, not exposed to fire); Shi Jun Zi Rou (Quisqualis Fructus Flesh); Rou Dou Kou (Myristicae Semen, 0.5 liang, wrapped in dough and roasted).
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder. Use dough paste to form pills, sized like radish seeds. Administer 30-20 pills per dose, adjusting according to the child's age, swallowed with warm boiled water.
To treat conditions as described previously.
Ding Xiang (Caryophylli Flos), Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Rou Dou Kou (Myristicae Semen, dehusked, 0.5 liang each; these three herbs are wrapped in dough and roasted in slow ash heat until the dough is cooked); He Zi (Chebulae Fructus, 0.5 liang, roasted and pitted); Shi Jun Zi (Quisqualis Fructus); Lu Hui (Aloe), each 1 liang, finely ground and added.
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder. Mix with jujube pulp to form pills, sized like sesame seeds. Administer 5-7 pills per dose, taken with warm rice decoction, before breastfeeding or meals.
