Those who are sycophantic often have many desires, and those with accumulated depression often generate internal fire. Over time, this suppressed nature erupts like surging waves; the mind becomes trance-like, resembling madness or possession. At this stage, medicinal herbs cannot be directly administered. One should first burn elixirs in the room to dispel their rebellious and manic state.
Ruyi Dan (如意丹) - Seven pills.
Eyebrows and beard fall out spontaneously; skin is moist but the pulse is floating and choppy. This indicates Wind pathogen, not merely premature graying due to aging. The thirty-six types of Wind diseases share the same origin but have different names; they are not superficial ailments. In summer, it is advisable to consume Xiangfeng Snake (香风蛇), commonly known as Heifeng Snake (黑风蛇), boiled with chicken.
Baiguishen (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, White Part), Baisha (White Hemp Seed), Chishao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra), Shengdi (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata), Hanliancao (Herba Ecliptae), Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus), Yinhua (Flos Lonicerae), Chongweizi (Fructus Chorisporae).
Headache and inability to see people are contraindications. Liver Wind stirring internally accompanied by vomiting of bile is also a contraindication. Having known each other for years, you are my only confidant; how can I sit idle! It would be wonderful if the condition could be reversed, yet destiny has its own course.
Wendan Tang (温胆汤, Phlegm-Heat Resolving Decoction) without Zhishi (Fructus Aurantii Immaturus), added with Tianma (Rhizoma Gastrodiae), Gouteng (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis), and Sangye (Folium Mori).
This syndrome ultimately belongs to Liver Wind; thus, the Jueyin channel disease is difficult to control. According to ancient methods, there is a method of calming and subduing, and a method of strengthening Earth to resist Wind. Therefore, using Dongyuan's method: Renshen (Radix Ginseng), Jiaozhu (Fried Atractylodis Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Baiziren (Semen Ziziphi Spinosae), Banxia (Rhizoma Pinelliae), Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae), Shudi (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata), Baiguishen (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, White Part), Zhigancao (Prepared Licorice Root), Biejia (Carapax et Plastrum Testudinis).
Chronic cough allowing pathogens to shift to the Stomach, where coughing causes the Lung's descending function to fail, leading to rebellious Qi ascent. Do not use herbs that drain and damage Lung Qi.
Water pear, cored but with skin, mashed thoroughly, filtered through silk cotton to extract clear juice, slowly boiled into an ointment, stored in a porcelain jar sealed with wax. Take five qian daily with warm water.
Yangming pulse is excess; shortness of breath with wheezing. Vigorous Fire consumes Qi, melting away True Yin. The condition worsens in summer when Yang Qi expands. At the time of harvesting jujubes, the mental state is calm. At this moment, no other treatment can be planned; temporarily administer Wendan Tang to slightly reduce heat and protect the injured Metal organ (Lung).
Individuals with robust physique often have weak Zheng Qi. When chills and fever suddenly appear, urine becomes scanty and frequent, head and neck tremble, tongue is dry, teeth parched, breathing is rapid, left pulse is wiry and right pulse is weak, accompanied by thirst.
Tianhuafen (Radix Trichosanthis), Juanzhuye (Leaf of Bambusa Tuldoides), Nongjuhong (Concentrated Tangerine Peel), Qinghaogeng (Stem of Artemisia Annua), Maidong (Radix Ophiopogonis), Liuyisan (Six-to-One Powder).
Pulse is rapid; no bowel movement for five to six days; yellow tongue coating and scorched lips indicate blazing Stomach Heat. Moreover, previously administered medicines were acrid-warm substances that consumed Yin. Now, cold-cooling herbs are indispensable, yet caution and protection remain paramount because Heat pathogens have penetrated deeply into Yin, while Yang Qi stands alone in hyperactivity.
Chuanlianhuang (Coptidis Rhizoma), Zhishi (Fructus Aurantii Immaturus), Gualou (Fructus Trichosanthis), Chishao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra), Shenggancao (Raw Licorice Root), Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae), Xingren (Semen Armeniacae Amarum), Mutong (Caulis Akebiae).
The root cause of the illness stems from excessive consumption of persimmons combined with Cold invasion, persisting for over twenty years. Persimmons belong to Wood of the West; their fruit embodies the Qi of Autumn Metal. Since they share the same affinity with Lung Metal, it is evident that pathogens enter the Lung, manifesting as Qi asthma. Over time, Kidney Water lacks its root, causing deficiency Fire to float upward and transform into Phlegm. The Stomach is the vessel storing Phlegm. Thus, Jiangqi Tang (Qi-Descending Decoction) and Liu Junzi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction), acting from Lung to Stomach, yield minor effects but do not eradicate the core issue. Just as Jiemo remains unconquered, Qi territory never truly belongs to Yan. Given the fierce pulse quality, treatment must penetrate deep into the disease site. We propose utilizing Zhang Zhongjing's methods.
Tiantingli (Semen Lepidii), Kutingli (Semen Descurainiae), Dazao (Fructus Jujubae).
Coughing with hemoptysis has persisted for over three years, lingering without resolution. Complexion is dark, pulse is wiry, cough intensifies, perioral area is yellow. The pathology originates in Liver and Spleen, affecting Kidney, and depleting the Upper Jiao storage. Supply fails to meet demand. Fluid retention further complicates matters; draining yields no result, nourishing proves ineffective. Delay leads to daily deterioration, irreparable. We must target the Middle Jiao to promote circulation, hoping for improvement. We adopt Jianzhong method, adding phlegm-resolving agents. After Yangming Qi ascends, we will subsequently tonify Taiyin, then gradually transition to pure Yin-nourishing methods; otherwise, it is not proper treatment.
Xiao Jianzhong Tang (Minor Construct the Middle Decoction) without Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger). Added Fuling (Poria) and Jiangpi (Pericarpium Zingiberis Recens).
Ancient character creation: "Lao" (Consumption/Fatigue) consists of two "Huo" (Fire) characters exerting force together. Hence, explanation involves Ministerial and Sovereign Fires. Warm-tonify the Middle Jiao to still the source of Phlegm; tonify Lower Jiao to benefit the source of Water. However, the disease depth is profound; fear it cannot be broken in one strike.
Shudi (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata), Gouqizi (Fructus Lycii), Yuanshen (Radix Scrophulariae), Niuxi (Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae), Fuling (Poria), Zi Shiyin (Fluorite).
Horizontal view forms Kan trigram; vertical view resembles flowing water. The single line of True Yang in the center, when Water is deficient, exposes itself as Dragon Fire. Zhen trigram represents Thunder; the Yang below Zhen shares the same origin.
Yiyuan Dan (One-Origin Pill) should be used; long-term administration leads to cure.
Dan Qushi (Processed Urinary Stone) 5-6 jin, formed into pills with red date paste. Take 5-6 qian in morning, 2-3 qian in evening, taken down with soup pointed by a small amount of Yang Qushi.
Pulse is wiry and rapid; Chi position is exclusively enlarged. Cough, sore throat, and loss of voice follow years of blood loss. Yin deficiency with Fire flaming up is self-evident. Only extremely quiet/nourishing substances can guide Yang to潜藏 (submerge) into Yin, approximating the principles of Neijing. However, one must practice quietude preservation, ensuring Yin is secure and Yang is dense, achieving the power of Kan-Li interaction for best results.
Shudi (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata, pounded with Haishi powder), Jinshihu (Dendrobii Caulis), Beishashen (Radix Glehniae), Fuling (Poria), Maimendong (Radix Ophiopogonis), Shengbaishao (Raw Radix Paeoniae Alba), Gui Fu Ban (Plastrum Testudinis), Shanyao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae).
Body shape suddenly thins; pulse is extremely deficient. Qi is timid with occasional cough; vision darkens with slight dizziness, mood is despondent. Tonifying Qi and Blood is common knowledge. It is advisable to introduce Yin beasts into Yin; medication will still be effective. Catch one otter morning and night, dry the liver, use Lu Jiao Jiao (Deer Antler Glue). Pound separately in wooden vessels. Take 1 qian Lu Jiao Jiao powder in morning, 1 qian Otter Liver powder in evening, both with warm water. This is a hundred-day routine method; now prescribing decoction for initial intake.
Renshen (Radix Ginseng), Fuling (Poria), Tusibing (Fermented Soybean Product), Nanzao (Southern Red Dates), Jiaodongzhu (Fried Winter Atractylodes), Gouqizi (Fructus Lycii).
Left Guan pulse beats urgently and rapidly; Right Guan is wiry and large. Without Stomach Qi returning to origin, Chong Sea lacks root. If Right Guan is so, severity peaks in Spring; if Right Guan is so, decline occurs in Autumn. Fear Left Guan responds. Reluctantly adopting ancient Yi-Gui Same Source treatment.
Da Shengdi (Large Raw Rehmannia), Nuzhenzi (Fructus Ligustri Lucidi), Gouqizi (Fructus Lycii), Fushen (Poria with Hostwood), Yuanshen (Radix Scrophulariae), Bei Shanyao (Northern Yam), Zi Shiyin (Fluorite).
Illness originated from mental exhaustion and overwork, compounded by Wind-Cold exposure, leading to cough and expectoration. Long-term internal injury ensues. Internal injury means damage to internal Zang organs' Qi. As ancients said, Xu Lao (Deficiency Consumption) rarely resolves completely. One must abandon mental toil and overwork, eliminate all mundane thoughts, assist with medicine, perhaps extending life.
Maidong (Radix Ophiopogonis), Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini), Jiegeng (Radix Platycodonis), Zhigancao (Prepared Licorice Root), Shashen (Radix Glehniae), Yiyiren (Semen Coicis), Fuling (Poria).
This is Sha Lao (Sha Consumption), caused by Taiyin damage, transmitting daily to Foot Shaoyin. Spleen Qi deficiency causes loose stools, entering Lower Zang. Hundred treatments fail; speedily retreat. Close doors, rest quietly. One formula gifted for daily drinking.
Shudi (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata), Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini), Baihe (Bulbus Lilii), Gouqizi (Fructus Lycii).
For a person of sixty years old, both Chi pulses are exclusively enlarged. With two Zang organs already declining, how can this be tolerated! Urgently apply Yi-Gui Same Source method.
Shudi (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata), Nuzhenzi (Fructus Ligustri Lucidi), Tusibing (Fermented Soybean Product), Fuling (Poria), Yuanshen (Radix Scrophulariae), Hanliancao (Herba Ecliptae), Gouqizi (Fructus Lycii).
Honey pills.
This is True Yin deficiency syndrome, commonly called Hundred-Day Consumption. Even slight latent Summer-Heat makes chills and fever worse. Regretfully, treatment was delayed.
Shudi (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata), Qiancao (Radix Rubiae Cordifoliae), Qinghao (Herba Artemisiae Annuae), Yuanshen (Radix Scrophulariae), Huashi (Talcum), Danpi (Cortex Moutan).
The single line in Kan, True Yang flies alone upwards. Upon reaching Si-Wu months, Shen Shui Jin Dan (Divine Water Golden Pill) is powerless.
Lao Shengjiang (Old Ginger), Tiandong (Asparagi Caulis), Huainiu (Achyranthes Bidentata), Gancao (Licorice), Chuanshihu (Dendrobium Officinale), Yuanshen (Radix Scrophulariae), Nuzhenzi (Fructus Ligustri Lucidi).
Disposition favors pungent foods. Medical texts say: excessive pungent food causes sudden death. Current diagnosis shows complexion and pulse indicate exhausted form and body. Sudden death is avoided, nor is longevity promised. Self-care is needed. First, take Sansheng Yin.
Shengdihuang (Raw Rehmannia Root), Chi Fuling (Red Poria), Maidong (Radix Ophiopogonis), Fen Gancao (Powdered Licorice), Sheng Yiyiren (Raw Coix Seed), Hong Zao (Red Date).
This is a Sun (Damage) syndrome. From upper damage descending: first damages Lung, then transmits to Heart, Liver, Spleen. Spleen damage causes loose stools. Transmission to Kidney results in bone atrophy, unable to rise from bed. Absolutely do not administer Lung-regulating drugs to hasten decline. Only Zhu Du Wan (Pig Stomach Pill) is suitable.
