Volume I titled "Zhengjin" (Observations on Manifestations) (Part II)
Postscript to the Compilation of "Zhengjin"

The *Neijing* (Inner Canon) states: "For fire stagnation, employ dispersal." Mr. Wang Andao interpreted this as: "Dispersal means inducing sweating and lifting upward." Lifting and inducing sweat constitutes the meaning of dispersing. The Master Zhang Zhongjing's Taiyang Chapter states: "If the pulse is floating, the disease is in the exterior; sweating may be induced. If the pulse is floating and rapid, sweating may be induced." The Yangming Chapter states: "If there is a floating pulse, no sweat, and wheezing, inducing sweat will lead to recovery." It also states: "If the throat and mouth are dry, sweating must not be induced. If there is obstruction in the throat, sweating must not be induced." However, in recent times, regarding cases of Lanhou Sha (Severe Scarlet Fever with Sore Throat), some have survived due to inducing sweat, while others have died from failing to induce sweat. For instance, in the third year of Guangxu Dingchou (1877), during an epidemic in Hushang, Wu region, those suffering from Hou Sha (Scarlet Fever with Sore Throat) were contagious among both old and young. Physicians using cold-natured medicines caused continuous deaths, whereas those who administered Mahuang Xingren Jingfang (Ephedra, Apricot Seed, Schizonepeta, and Saposhnikovia) to induce sweat and vent pathogenic factors saw patients turn from critical to safe. Conversely, administering Heigao (Black Plaster) and Xijiao Dihuang Tang (Rhinoceros Horn and Rehmannia Decoction) led to instant death. This demonstrates that for seasonal epidemics, treatment should be deduced based on the annual Qi (climate/energy); one cannot rigidly adhere to fixed formulas. Mr. Xue Yupiao stated: "In years of great epidemics, there are often difficult-to-identify syndromes. Physicians lack certainty, indiscriminately prescribing various formulas and herbs, resulting in many premature deaths. To grasp the general principle, one should examine the Si Tian (Heavenly Qi ruling the first half of the year) and Zai Quan (Earthly Qi ruling the second half of the year) over the past three years, deduce where the climate deviates, and combine this with the current year's Si Tian and Zai Quan. Using this method to prescribe medication, even if not perfectly accurate, will not be far off." The *Neijing* says: "One must first consider the annual Qi and not disrupt the harmony of Heaven and Humanity." Is this not what it refers to? In compiling this volume, I fear I have omitted much while mentioning little. I hope wise and virtuous scholars will correct my deficiencies and provide me with insightful advice. I shall then continue to publish further editions, aiming for immortality together. Junior scholar Ling De bows and records.

Mr. Taki Risosho of Japan authored *Mashin Shintoku*, *Mashin Jiyofang*, and *Mashin Zanrui*, each in one volume. I sought them for many years but failed to see them, deeply regretting this. Hereby, I append them at the beginning of this volume, awaiting future visits to record and compile further editions. Summer of Xinmao year, Zhe'an respectfully records again.
