Taking this pill according to the guiding principles truly has the power to revive the dying. Even patients in critical condition, whose lives hang by a thread, can recover immediately. It has been tested repeatedly with consistent success, proving to be a precious prescription worth a thousand gold. It is contraindicated for those with deficiency-fatigue syndrome and pregnant women.
De's Note: The original formula contains Damairen (Barley Kernel), which I suspect is a typo for Daxingren (Apricot Kernel). Considering that Maxing Gan Shi Tang (Ephedra, Apricot Seed, Licorice, and Gypsum Decoction) is the primary formula for treating wind-warmth by inducing sweating to expel pathogens, since Mahuang (Ephedra) and Shigao (Gypsum) are used, how could Xingren (Apricot Seed) be omitted to drain the lungs and promote qi flow? Therefore, I boldly modify it directly.
This formula is specifically indicated for all types of throat disorders, including Lanhou Dansha (Rotting Throat and Red Rash, a type of acute infectious disease characterized by sore throat and skin rash), phlegm-saliva obstruction, locked jaw and panting, where the body is still hot but life is imminent. In emergencies, dissolve one pill in boiling water and administer slowly; recovery is immediate. Administer another pill to achieve cure. Alternatively, decoct 3 qian of Helaye (Lotus Leaf) in water to dissolve and take the pill.
For pediatric mending dou (internalized smallpox/rash not erupting), dissolve half a pill in boiled water mixed with juice from Xiye Shichangpu (Fine-leaf Acorus Rhizome).
For pediatric shisha (seasonal sha syndrome) failing to erupt, dissolve one pill in a decoction of Xihe Liu (Tamarix Branch, 3 qian). If not fully erupted, administer another pill. For mild cases of sha or smallpox, take half a pill; for severe cases, take one to two pills.
For pediatric acute jingfeng (wind convulsion) presenting with fever, vomiting milk, palpitations, convulsions, and green stools, decoct Diaotenggou (Uncaria Hook, 3 qian) for a few boils, strain, and dissolve half or one pill based on the child's age/size. Divide into four doses for administration; efficacy is immediate.
For neonates within one month suffering from taijing (fetal fright) refusing to nurse, or crying at night, take one pill divided into quarters. Grind into an extremely fine powder, apply to the nipple, and allow the infant to suckle and swallow simultaneously; cure is immediate.
For Fengxian Tanjue (wind-phlegm syncope) with loss of consciousness, dissolve one pill in warm water with Chendanxing (Aged Arisaema with Bile, 5 fen). Alternatively, mix with Shengjiangzhi (Fresh Ginger Juice) or Xianzhuli (Fresh Bamboo Sap) for superior efficacy.
For Liver Qi Jueni (Liver Qi reversal syncope) with loss of consciousness, dissolve one pill in a decoction of Sheng Shijueming (Raw Halimodendron Shell, 2 liang).
For Shanghan Shixing Wenyi (Cold Damage seasonal epidemic plague) presenting with alternating chills and fever, headache, chest tightness, body ache, unresolved fever after one or two periods, delirium, and confusion, dissolve one pill in boiling water. If fever persists, administer another pill for miraculous effect.
For Yongju Fabei (carbuncles on the back), Naoju (brain carbuncle), Dingdu (furuncle), and all unnameable swellings/ulcers: externally, crush Niuxi (Achyranthes Root, 1 liang) to extract juice, mix with half a pill, and apply topically. Internally, dissolve one pill (for severe cases) or half a pill (for mild cases) in boiling water or a decoction of Sheng Gancao (Raw Licorice Root, 3 qian). Unsuppurated lesions will dissipate; suppurated lesions will rupture.
