Treats the condition during pregnancy from the fourth or fifth month to the seventh month, where fetal qi rushes upward causing heart palpitations and chest oppression (Zhu Xin), with qi rebellion nearly leading to collapse. Use this formula for exploration. If the fetus is not damaged, the pain will cease; if the fetus is already damaged, it will immediately induce expulsion.
Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) [remove rhizome, soak in wine] Xiong Chuann (Rhizoma Chuanxiong) [each 1 liang]
Crush into a powder. Take 4 qian per dose, add 1 zhan of wine, decoct until almost dry, then add 1 zhan of water, boil two or three times more, and take warm. If trismus (lockjaw) occurs, administer frequently in small amounts.
Another prescription treats difficult labor. The causes of difficult labor vary in difficulty. Regarding transverse or oblique presentations, these are often due to sitting on the grass (beginning labor) too early, excessive pushing, and failure of the fetus to turn in time, or drying up of maternal blood. If the hand presents first, it is called "transverse" (Heng); if the foot presents first, it is called "oblique" (Ni). *Yangsheng Fang* states: In moments of panic, the lives of both mother and child are at stake, unaware of the efficacy of this medicine. Most people refuse to take it, considering it an extremely cheap herb. Generally, in cases of dystocia lasting one or two days, amniotic fluid and blood may leak prematurely ("sitting on the beach"), but they do not know that Xiang Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) and Bai Cao Shuang (Soot from Hundred Herbs) can consolidate the blood again. Taking this medicine is like fish finding water; the fetus will naturally turn and be born. It also treats irregular menstruation.
Xiang Bai Zhi (Radix Angelicae Dahuricae) Bai Cao Shuang (Cinis Herbarum) [equal parts]
Grind into fine powder. Take 2 qian per dose, mix with half boy's urine and half rice vinegar, sip a little, then pour boiling water to fill six or seven parts, and take as drops. Efficacy is very rapid; taking it again ensures success.
Secret transmission for promoting delivery.
Chan Tui (Periostracum Cicadae) [1 liang, burnt to retain charred nature] Da She Tui (Ophichthidis Corneus Squama / Snake Slough) [burnt to retain charred nature, one strip] Hua Shi (Talcum) [half liang] Kui Zi (Semen Malvae) [1 liang, lightly stir-fried]
Grind into fine powder. Take 1 qian per dose, mix with slightly warm flowing water. Do not use hot water.
Promoting delivery.
Xiong Huang (Realgar) [free of stone impurities] Zhu Sha (Cinnabaris) [each 1.5 qian] Bi Ma Ren (Semen Ricini) [14 seeds, skin removed] Da She Tui (Ophichthidis Corneus Squama / Snake Slough) [1 chi]
Grind into powder, mix with rice porridge to form pills the size of a bullet. At the time of delivery, first wash the area below the navel with pepper water, then place the pill inside the umbilicus, and cover with several layers of wax paper.
Treats cases where the fetus has not been delivered after five to seven days post-due date, approaching death, or in short women with unopened pubic symphysis (Jiao Gu).
Use Chuan Xiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong) and Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) each 1 liang, one dried shell of a dead turtle (roasted with butter), and a handful of hair from a woman who has given birth to both sons and daughters (burnt to retain charred nature). Grind together into a powder. Each dose... available...
