Shenru Yin (Ginseng and Perilla Decoction)
Treats phlegm-fluid retention (Tan Yin) stagnating and accumulating in the chest, causing obstruction at the Zhongwan (CV12) area, vomiting of phlegm-saliva, dizziness, gastric burning and restlessness, palpitations, and hiccups. It also treats phlegm-qi invading the person, blocking the joints and meridians, causing traction and spasms of the hands and feet, deviation of the mouth and eye, hemiplegia, immediate vomiting after eating, headache, fever, with symptoms resembling Taiyang disease (Exterior Syndrome). Decoct with seven slices of fresh ginger and one date, take on an empty stomach. For those with hiccups, add Ge Gen (Kudzu Root). For abdominal pain, add Shao Yao (Peony Root). (See this formula under "Taiyang Harmonizing Category".)
Wu Tao Wan (Five-Ring Pill)
Treats deficiency of Stomach Qi, where the Sanjiao (Triple Burner) is obstructed and unable to disseminate and transport water and grain essence, leading to the formation of phlegm-fluids that knot and accumulate between the chest and diaphragm. This causes dizziness and vertigo of the head and eyes, chest fullness, coughing with shortness of breath, vomiting with regurgitation, and abdominal pain. If the phlegm-fluids lodge in the Zhongwan area, it may also cause arm pain and inability to lift the arm, as well as heaviness in the waist and legs. If unresolved for a long time, the phlegm-fluids flow into the Spleen. The Spleen dislikes dampness; upon contact with water-dampness, it swells. Swelling impairs the digestion of water and grain, leading to abdominal distension with emptiness and loss of appetite. There may also be gurgling sounds in the intestines.
Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 1 liang) Nan Xing (Arisaematis Rhizoma Praeparatum, 1 liang, each cut into dozens of pieces. Wash the above two herbs with water, then add 3 liang of Bai Fan (Alumen) ground into powder, mix into the water, and decoct again.) Qing Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride, remove pith)
Grind the above into fine powder. Use Shen Qu (Massa Medicata Fermentata, 1 liang) and Da Mai (Hordei Fructus Germinatus, 2 liang), grind them together, take the powder, make a paste, mix with the medicinal powder, and form pills the size of wu zi (Cibotii Spora). Take 30 to 50 pills per dose.
(This formula eliminates old cold, resolves accumulation, transforms food stagnation, wards off fog, dew, wind-cold, mountain miasma, pestilence, and abnormal seasonal qi. It treats fluid retention due to wine habits, persistent phlegm-water, or rebellious phlegm-qi in the heart and diaphragm causing frequent vomiting, vertigo, and heart pain when other medicines are ineffective. It treats all these conditions.)
Si Qi Tang (Four-Seven Decoction)
Treats Qi depression caused by the Seven Emotions, where phlegm-saliva aggregates, feeling like a clump of broken cotton. Or like a plum pit stuck in the throat, impossible to cough out or swallow. It also treats middle jiao fullness, abundant phlegm-saliva, and rebellious Qi with rapid breathing.
Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 5 liang) Fu Ling (Poria, 4 liang) Zi Su Ye (Perillae Folium, 2 liang) Hou Po (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, 3 liang)
Cut the above into coarse powder. Take 4 qian per dose, decoct with one cup of water, seven slices of fresh ginger, and one date, until reduced to 8 fen. Take at any time. If caused by excessive overthinking leading to Heart Qi deficiency... [Text incomplete] ...each one...
Er Chen Tang (Two-Aged Decoction)
Add Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix) and Chen Xiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum), 5 qian each, and Nan Xing 2 liang to each batch. Treats irregular Qi flow rising upward to transform into phlegm. Take 3 qian per dose with five slices of fresh ginger. (See this formula under "Malaria Category".)
