General Discussion:
Bone-steaming fever, lingering heat, relaying transmission, corpse-zhu, consumptive-zhu, insect-zhu, toxic-zhu, hot-zhu, cold-zhu, food-zhu, and ghost-zhu are all referred to as "Chuan Shi" (Transmitting Corpse Disease). This is because "Zhu" implies pouring down; the disease pours from above to below, resembling previous cases, hence called Zhu. Its variations include twenty-two types, thirty-six types, or ninety-nine types. Generally, it causes alternating chills and fever, night sweats, dreams of sexual intercourse with ghosts, seminal emission and white turbid urine, dry and erect hair. Or there may be masses in the abdomen, or small nodules on both sides behind the head, occurring repeatedly, gathering or dispersing, with a silent and depressed demeanor, coughing with phlegm and saliva, or expectorating pus and blood resembling lung萎 (Lung Flaccidity) or lung abscess, or recurring dysentery. The body becomes emaciated and exhausted, unable to sustain itself, accumulating over months and years until death. After death, the disease transmits to others, even wiping out the entire family. When a disease first begins, feeling mental cloudiness and climate imbalance, one must strictly abstain from alcohol and sex, regulate diet. If not, and one blindly believes in evil teachers or claims it is ghostly possession, the condition will become incurable. Be extremely cautious. It is also said that men suffering from Chuan Shi have chest and epigastric fullness, back and shoulder blade pain, blurred vision, and limb weakness. Although desiring to lie down, they cannot sleep. The spine and back are stiff and painful, knees and shins ache. They lie much more than they rise, appearing feigningly ill. Every morning, their spirit seems good, but after noon, limbs feel slightly hot, and complexion lacks luster. They find fault with others, harbor anger, and easily lose temper when things do not go as wished. Walking and standing reveal weak legs. Night sweats occur, dreams of intercourse with ghosts or seeing deceased relatives happen. Frequent palpitations and occasional coughing occur. Although desiring food, they cannot eat much, facing imminent death. Spirit seems okay, or occasional mild diarrhea, flanks feel vacuously distended, mouth and nose dry, frequent sticky saliva, sometimes red lips, sometimes drowsy. Gradually becoming severely emaciated, like a dried-up fish, unaware of death approaching!
Days and Methods for Corpse-Crawler Feeding and Treatment:
Generally, six worms circulate the body in ten days, flowing through four acupoints, repeating cyclically, detailed in the subsequent Six Generations method. Starting from Lichun (Start of Spring), the worm feeds every five days, returning to its designated acupoint. Being heavily intoxicated for five days makes the worm drunk for five days; this is the time to administer medicine and moxibustion. Those who treat recklessly lack understanding. In the human body, one worm occupies twelve acupoints; six worms together visit seventy-two acupoints. In the first decade (Shangxun), the worm's head moves upward visiting four head acupoints. In the middle decade (Zhongxun), it moves from the heart to the umbilicus visiting four acupoints. In the last decade (Xiaxun), it moves from the umbilicus to the feet visiting four acupoints. In the first decade, if moxibustion is applied, the worm exits in sweat like a purple silkworm larva; then take medicine to extract it, ensuring complete removal so the patient can be at peace. In the middle decade, the worm's head in the visited acupoints faces inward; medicine can be taken to extract it. In the last decade, the worm's head in the visited acupoints faces downward; do not apply moxibustion. Fear the worm may awaken and become difficult to remove later. These worms possess spiritual sensitivity; precision and caution are essential to avoid alerting them.
Method to Judge Disease Depth by Corpse-Worm Color:
A skilled physician must first know that toxic vapors and worms act together, attacking the zang-fu organs. On Yang days, male worms grow; on Yin days, fat and gristle form, making the worm white. Next, they consume flesh and blood; once depleted, the worm turns yellow-red. Next, they consume essence and marrow, turning black. Once entering the Kidney, the patient dies. One must seek a physician who understands the pathology, extract the worm first, and observe its color. If white, tonic medicine can be taken for thirty days. If yellow-red, for sixty days. If black, indicating extreme severity, for one hundred and twenty days. One or two out of ten may survive. Although it may not save the individual entirely, it benefits descendants. One must carefully regulate lifestyle for a year to calm the Zhu disease. Surviving thus is considered rebirth. It is also said that if the worm's head is red, the disease is treatable. If the head and mouth are white, it eats the patient's marrow; the disease is hard to treat, only preventing transmission to descendants.
Six Generations of Transmission and Worm Shapes:
The key to treating disease is matching medicine to pathology, achieving miraculous efficacy, primarily by draining excess and tonifying deficiency, regulating zang-fu organs. These nine worms exhibit various spiritual phenomena; keep them unknown. Some resemble dung beetles, some red silk horse tails, some toads, some like rotten dough, some with feet but no head, some with head but no feet, some transforming into essence and blood returning to primal yang. Such forms are beyond the grasp of shallow learners, leading to inappropriate prescriptions, many medical errors, and unjust deaths. Some only extract worms without tonifying, some forget lineage teachings, ultimately failing to cure, leading to premature death. How tragic!

Protection Method for Extracting Worms:
First, have the patient's home seal a room tightly with good paper, leaving no gaps. Find a mature person to pass items, sprinkling the body with Benzoin perfume. Apply Realgar and Orpiment to the nostrils, ears, eyes, and lips. Prepare an iron clamp and a cloth towel. Place two sheng of sesame oil in a pot, heat gently until boiling. Prepare a tall bucket containing good calcined gypsum (Duanshi), cover the bucket mouth with raw cloth. Then take the worm-extracting medicine: one dose at early Wugeng, one dose at Wugeng 3 points. After taking medicine, abdominal pain like axe chopping is acceptable. By Si hour, worms must be expelled. Stool may be foul and glue-like, or vomit/diarrhea may contain pus and blood clots, all into the ash bucket. Worms may exit via sweat like purple silkworm larvae, or from nose/ears/mouth, or urine, in various shapes, not just one type. Colors may be green, black, or large yellow-red. Immediately use iron tongs to remove them into the boiling oil. Wrap the worm in oil paper on the same day, place in a ceramic jar, fill with calcined gypsum, and bury in a remote mountain area to prevent re-infection. Discard patient's clothes and bedding. Physicians must advise staying away after administering medicine.
