Yantang (Salt Water Solution)
Indicated for sudden distension and fullness of the heart and abdomen, stabbing pain, distress caused by insect toxins, inability to vomit or defecate, symptoms resembling possession by spirits, leading to syncope within moments. This involves the three categories of causes: either deficiency of the zang organs or excess in the intestines and stomach, resulting in failure of vomiting and defecation. Drink 3 sheng of extremely salty salt water, hot, taking 1 sheng at a time to induce vomiting of retained food. If vomiting does not occur, take more; after vomiting, drink again, repeating until three episodes of vomiting are achieved. This method surpasses other treatments. Laypeople consider it rustic and disdainful, refusing to use it, preferring death. For such cases, use this method first, followed by Lizhong Tang with increased amounts of Juhong (aged tangerine peel). Alternatively, use Huoxiang Zhengqi San added with Guigui (cinnamon twig), Fuling (poria), and Wei Zhike (stir-fried bitter orange fruit), swallowing Suhexiang Wan (Styrax Pill), which is effective.
