Do not open your eyes to wash your face immediately upon rising in the morning, as this will cause dryness of the eyes, loss of vision, and excessive tearing. In the early morning, always speak good words and avoid evil speech; upon hearing bad news, spit towards the direction from which the sound came, which is auspicious.
Whenever you intend to travel, visualize the Kuigang star (a deity associated with direction and protection) above your head, so that all directions will be auspicious. If you intend to engage in battle, visualize the Dipper handle (Dou Bing) pointing forward towards the enemy, which is auspicious. Do not wear your hat and belt facing north, as this is inauspicious. Do not spit towards the northwest, as this offends the Kuigang deity, which is inauspicious. Do not cough and spit forcefully or over long distances, as this may damage the Lungs leading to Lung disease, causing heaviness in the hands and feet, back pain, and coughing. Also, do not urinate or defecate towards the northwest. Do not kill turtles or snakes. Do not stare at the sun and moon with angry eyes, as this can lead to blindness. When walking or riding a horse, do not look back; otherwise, your spirit will leave you, and ghosts will follow. Whenever you encounter a temple, be cautious and do not enter casually; if you must enter, show utmost reverence, do not raise your eyes in anger or look around, but treat it as if facing a stern father, so that you may enjoy its blessings; otherwise, disaster will come quickly. Do not turn your head to look back at the temple. If dragons or snakes suddenly appear, do not panic or gaze intently. If strange or ghostly phenomena occur, forcibly suppress fear and do not regard them as strange, chanting: "Seeing the strange without regarding it as strange, the strange will destroy itself." Furthermore, when encountering exceptionally beautiful women on the road or in crowds, do not look closely or develop affection, as these are likely mountain spirits or demons that can cause deep obsession. This applies whether in deep mountains, wilderness, or crowded places. Wherever there are sand leeches (Shashi) in water, do not bathe, as they harm humans. To cross such waters, follow behind donkeys or horses and cross quickly to avoid injury. Where water crossbows (Shuinu, aquatic venomous insects) exist, if they shoot at a person's shadow, death ensues; to cross, use an object to splash water to disperse them, then cross quickly to avoid injury. In many mountains where people claim to mine treasures, only March and September are suitable; in other months, the mountain qi closes and mixes, leading to death for those who enter. If one smells the odor of a corpse while fasting and white coating appears on the tongue with constant halitosis, those wishing to view corpses should drink alcohol beforehand to ward off toxins and resist heat. When crossing rivers, do not wash your face, or black spots may develop.
It is said: People under forty often indulge themselves; after forty, they suddenly feel a decline in energy and strength. Once this decline occurs, various diseases arise like bees swarming, which is the result of imprudence. There are many such cases; I merely cite one example. Therefore, those who practice health preservation carefully restrain their Yang whenever they feel it surging, and must not let their hearts run wild and exhaust their intentions, thereby harming themselves. If one can control it once, it is like extinguishing fire once and adding oil once. If one cannot control it and indulges in ejaculation, it is like a candle about to go out and removing its oil; how can one not guard against this deeply? Those who suffer from illness often do not understand the Way in youth, and even if they do, they cannot believe or practice it. By old age, understanding comes too late, and illness is hard to nurture. Preserving oneself in later years can still extend life and longevity; if one practices the Way in youth and vigor, becoming an immortal would be swift. Some ask: "Is it advisable to conserve essence and guard unity before the age of sixty?" The answer is: No. Men cannot live without women, and women cannot live without men. Without women, desires stir; stirring desires tire the Spirit; tiring the Spirit damages longevity. If one's thoughts are pure and devoid of desire, that is excellent for longevity. However, this is rare among ten thousand; forcing suppression is difficult to maintain and easy to lose, leading to spermatorrhea and turbid urine, resulting in the disease of 'ghostly intercourse,' causing damage equivalent to a hundredfold. Intercourse should avoid Bing-Ding days, as well as the days of First Quarter (Xian), Full Moon (Wang), Last Day of Month (Hui), and New Moon (Shuo). It should also avoid strong winds, heavy rain, dense fog, extreme cold, extreme heat, thunderstorms, lightning, dark skies, solar/lunar eclipses, rainbows, and earthquakes, as these harm the Spirit and are inauspicious. The harm to men is doubled, causing disease in women; offspring born under such conditions will likely be epileptic, foolish, mute, deaf, contracted, lame, blind, or squinted, suffering from frequent illness, short life, filial impiety, and lack of benevolence. One must also avoid intercourse under the sun, moon, stars, firelight, within temples or Buddhist shrines, near wells, latrines, tombs, or corpses. If intercourse follows proper methods, virtue accumulates, and wise, good beings will incarnate, ensuring harmonious temperament and conduct, harmony in actions, prosperity of the family, and convergence of auspicious signs. If improper, wicked, foolish beings with little fortune will incarnate, causing parents to have violent temperaments, failure in endeavors, decline of the family, and repeated calamities; even if children grow up, the state and family may perish. The response of fortune and misfortune is like an echo following a voice; this is an inevitable principle, worthy of deep reflection. For those seeking offspring, wait until one day, three days, or five days after the woman's menstruation ends. Choose a Wang-Xiang day (prosperous days): Jia-Yi in Spring, Bing-Ding in Summer, Geng-Xin in Autumn, Ren-Gui in Winter. Perform ejaculation during the time of Shengqi (vital qi) after midnight. Such offspring will be male, long-lived, bright, and hold high rank. If performed two, four, or six days after menstruation ends, the offspring will be female. Do not ejaculate after six days, as conception will fail and the fetus will not survive. If one engages in intercourse while angry and blood/qi are unsettled, it causes carbuncles and sores. One must not hold urine during intercourse, as it leads to stranguria, pain in the urethra, pallor, and due to fatigue from long travel, results in Five Exhaustions and Deficiency Damage, and few children. If a woman engages in intercourse before her menstruation has completely ceased, she may contract Bai Bo disease (Vitiligo).
