Treats women suffering from wind-stroke (Zhong Feng, stroke-like syndrome induced by external wind) after postpartum blood loss, presenting with dizziness and confusion, inability to locate pain sites, muscle stiffness and inability to turn the body, flaccidity or spasticity of the four limbs, and incontinence of urine and feces. (From "Discussion on Treatment of Wind-Stroke" in the Wind-Stroke Section)
Discourse Eighteen asks: What is the cause of heart pain after childbirth? The answer is: The Heart is the master of Blood. If there is latent chronic cold in the body, and due to the great deficiency caused by childbirth, the cold clashes with the Blood, causing Blood coagulation and obstruction of the collaterals, resulting in heart pain.
Shu Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, steamed with wine and dried), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, radix removed, soaked in wine), Chuan Du Huo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix, radix removed), Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, processed), Wu Zhu Yu (Evodiae Fructus, stir-fried), Gui Xin (Cinnamomi Cortex, avoid direct fire), Bai Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Xiao Cao (Radix Glehniae or similar, each one tael), Zhi Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried), Xi Xin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, each half tael).
Crush the above herbs into coarse powder. For each dose, take half a tael, add two large cups of water, decoct until one cup remains, strain, and drink while slightly warm. Take at any time. Xuan Hu Suo Tang (Narroot Stephaniae Decoction; see formula in "Discussion on Women's Blood and Qi").
Discourse Nineteen asks: What is the cause of postpartum heat oppression and rising qi transforming into Hong Kong Jiao (Hong Kong Foot, i.e., Beriberi/Jiaqi)? The answer is: Postpartum blood deficiency generates internal heat, compounded by excessive exposure to coolness during spring and summer, and invasion of dampness from the ground. (See formula in "Discussion on Hong Kong Jiao" in the Hong Kong Jiao Section).
Discourse Twenty asks: What is the cause of postpartum excessive sweating leading to Jing disease (Jing, tetany/spasm)? The answer is: Postpartum blood deficiency leads to loose interstices (Cou Li), causing excessive sweating. When wind pathogen attacks, it disrupts the breath/qi. (The above formula not only treats postpartum cases; for any woman who accidentally contracts this disease, administering this medicine urgently will ensure recovery. If other medicines are used, it may be too late!)
Discourse Twenty-One asks: What is the cause of wind generation due to extreme deficiency from excessive lochia discharge after childbirth? The answer is: Women base their constitution on Blood. Due to excessive blood loss during childbirth, Qi has no foundation... If... Ji Wei Shang Dan (Ji Wei Shang Dan Pill) Tai Yin Xuan Jing (Xuan Jing Shi, separately ground), Ru Xiang (Olibanum, separately ground), Wu Ling Zhi (Trogopterori Faeces), Liu Huang (Sulfur, separately ground), Sang Shang Ji Sheng (Taxilli Herba), Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, white pith removed).
First, grind the aforementioned four ingredients together until uniform, stir-fry lightly in a stone mortar over low heat without burning, then grind extremely fine. Add the powders of the remaining herbs, use juice of Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix) to make paste for pills.
