The disease of Luoli (scrofula/lymphadenitis) is also known as Jiu Lou (Nine Types of Fistula). Ancient prescriptions record various names and manifestations, which are difficult to describe in detail. When it occurs, it mostly forms lumps between the neck and axilla, varying in size and clustering together. It presents with alternating chills and fever, and may suppurate and leak pus. Its root lies in the Zang-Fu organs. Generally, the Liver governs Yelang Lou (Wild Wolf Fistula), the Stomach governs Shu Lou (Rat Fistula), the Large Intestine governs Loushu Lou (Mole Cricket Fistula), the Spleen governs Feng Lou (Bee Fistula), the Lung governs Pifu Lou (Ant Fistula), the Heart governs Qicao Lou (Caterpillar Fistula), the Gallbladder governs Fuqu Lou (Floating Maggot Fistula), the Kidney governs Luoli Lou, and the Small Intestine governs Zhuanmai Lou (Turning Pulse Fistula). Tracing its origin, it is mostly caused by imbalance of cold and heat, or irregular diet, leading to stagnation and accumulation of Qi and Blood. According to Chao Yuanfang: To determine prognosis, ask the patient to look upwards; if red vessels are seen penetrating the pupil from top to bottom, seeing one vessel indicates death in one year, one and a half vessels in one and a half years, two and a half vessels in two and a half years, and three vessels in three years. If the red vessels do not penetrate the pupil downwards, it is treatable. The *San Yin Fang* states that this reasoning is indeed correct. There are one or two treatment methods used previously with verified efficacy, recorded below for reference.
