The human eyes are like the two luminaries in the sky. They gather the essence of the five zang and six fu organs and are the convergence point of the zong mai (converging vessels). They allow clear vision of all transformations and serve as the external manifestation of the Liver.
However,
the eyelids
are nourished
by decline
in
form.
Consumption of the five pungent spices, roasted foods, alcohol, and toxic substances should be strictly avoided. One must maintain a relaxed temperament and practice careful protection and regulation; thus, no ailment will remain incurable. If one indulges in recklessness and violates taboos, bringing disaster upon oneself, blindness may ensue before resolution. Can one not be cautious?
Furthermore: The eyes internally correspond to the five zang organs and externally correspond to the five wheels. The pupil and black water are governed by the Kidney; the blood wheel, circular in shape, is governed by the Heart; the network wrapping is governed by the Spleen; the white sclera belongs to the Lung; the overall control lies with the Liver. Although the eye tendons are connected to the Liver, the visual aperture communicates through all five zang organs, and each zang organ possesses its own spirit.
Regarding one syndrome: When a person is first born, if bathing is unclean, allowing dirty water to soak the eyes, causing redness and ulceration of the orbital eyelids, which gradually worsens and ultimately cannot heal, it is said to be congenital.
