Treatment for sores and ulcers.
Jinyinhua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos), Sheng Gancao (Raw Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Pugongying (Taraxaci Herba) each 1 liang, Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) 1 qian, Ruxiang (Olibanum) 1 qian. The Ruxiang is ground into powder first. Then, the other five herbs are decocted in 5 bowls of water until reduced to 1 bowl. The resulting liquid is taken with the Ruxiang powder. This yields miraculous effects.
Treatment for carbuncles, furuncles, and early-stage osteomyelitis (duogu ju).
Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) 1 liang, Furongye (Malvae Folium) 1 liang (dried and ground into powder), Shexiang (Musk), Bingpian (Borneolum Syntheticum) each 3 fen, Wubeizi (Galla Chinensis) 1 liang, Tenghuang (Flavum Resina) 3 qian, Sheng Fan (Alumen Crudum) 3 qian.
All the above herbs are ground into powder and mixed with rice vinegar to form a thick paste. Apply this paste around the periphery of the osteomyelitis lesion, leaving a hole in the center the size of a bean. Occasionally sweep the area with goose feathers dipped in vinegar. The lesion will resolve internally within one day and night. If not swept, application alone is of no benefit. For other carbuncles and furuncles, apply this medicine externally; it is extremely effective.
Gengsheng notes: Osteomyelitis is mostly yin-type. In the early stage, it often presents without pain or itching. This formula is only suitable for yang-toxic conditions such as carbuncles and furuncles, and should not be applied to yin syndromes. It seems not very appropriate for osteomyelitis.
Treatment for back abscesses (fabei), carbuncles, ding sores, malignant furuncles, and all kinds of nameless malignant sores and swelling toxins accompanied by heat and pain, in the initial stage before ulceration.
Jinwen Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) quantity unspecified. Half is roasted over fire until cooked, and half is used raw; Gancaojie (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma with nodes) in equal proportion.
Grind the above herbs into fine powder. Take one spoonful each time, mixed with warm wine on an empty stomach. Continue until there is a sense of free passage.
This formula was created by the surgeon Gongsun Zhi. Applying it to various carbuncles and sores yields miraculous results. Dansha (Cinnabaris) nourishes blood and benefits the heart; Xionghuang (Realgar) promotes flesh growth and tonifies the spleen; Fanshi (Alumen) regulates fatty tissue and assists the lungs; Cishi (Magnetitum) unblocks bone fluid and strengthens the kidneys; Shidan (Chalcanthite) treats tendons and nourishes the liver.
Take equal parts of the above herbs, place them in a Yangcheng jar, seal tightly with salt mud, and undergo sublimation. Collect the sublimated frost for use.
This formula is very unique. I acquired it for a thousand coins, and its efficacy is consistent.
Diru Xiang (Frankincense) 4 liang (wrapped in bamboo leaves, heated red-hot, pressed with bricks to extract oil); Jing Moyao (Myrrha) 4 liang (de-oiled using the previous method); Xian You Xuejie (Sanguis Draconis) 4 liang; Baise Ercha (Catechu) 4 liang; Shanghao Yinzhu (Cinnabaris Preparata) 4 liang; Hangzhou Dingfen (Cerussa) 4 liang; Shanghao Huangdan (Minii Oxidum Rubrum) 4 liang; Shang Tonglv (Chalcanthite) 3 qian.
Each of the above herbs is separately ground until no sound is produced. Sift into extremely fine powder and mix well. When applying, according to the size of the affected area, take a piece of Jialiansi oil paper, prick many small holes with a needle. Use 5 qian of the powder per sheet. Mix with genuine sesame oil and spread onto the paper. Cover with another sheet of oil paper and sew the edges tightly with thread. Apply to the affected area and bind firmly with soft silk. This naturally relieves pain, resolves stasis, and generates new tissue. After three days, flip the plaster, prick more small holes with a needle as before, and reapply. Since the medicinal ingredients are expensive, this allows utilization of the medicinal power from both sides. Patients without excessive heat should take Shiquan Dabu Tang (Decoction for Complete Great Tonification) internally. Patients with heat should reduce the dosage of Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex), Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), and Zao (Jujubae Fructus), decoct and take daily, combined with dietary nourishment. There is no case that fails to respond. For severe cases, use two plasters; success rate is nearly 100%.
Gengsheng notes: This formula is most effective after ulceration. If the sore has not yet ulcerated or discharged large amounts of pus, it is not suitable.
