Treat all injuries caused by metal blades or arrowheads, as well as contusions and sprains, even cases of death-like state from dog bites. Immediately apply the following powder to the wound. The blood will transform into yellow fluid; applying the powder again will revive the patient without pain. In cases of internal injury where blood enters the zang-fu organs, decoct child's urine (Tongbian), add a small amount of wine, heat it, and mix with one qian (approx. 3-5g) of the powder. Take orally for immediate effect. For livestock injured by horn thrusts where intestines protrude but are not damaged, immediately reduce them into the body, suture the wound using mulberry bark thread, apply the powder to stop bleeding and revive instantly. For postpartum women suffering from fainting due to retained lochia, malignant blood rushing to the heart, dead fetus in the womb, or death due to retained placenta, provided the heart region remains warm, immediately take one qian of the powder mixed with child's urine. This will expel foul matter resembling pig liver, preventing wind-blood and blood-qi disorders for life. If blood above the diaphragm transforms into yellow fluid, it can be vomited out or discharged via urination, which is very effective.
Four liang of Sulfur (Liuhuang) and one liang of Realgar (Pishi), ground into fine powder and mixed evenly. Store in a clay jar, seal with mud, and bake dry. Place on a square brick, surround with sixteen liang of charcoal. Ignite fire from below starting from Si-Wu hours (9 AM - 1 PM). Continue until the charcoal is consumed and cooled. Remove, grind into fine powder, and store in a porcelain bottle.
Treat all carbuncles, sores, and toxic swellings, whether ulcerated or not. For example, when treating Back Carbuncle (Fabei), first wash with warm water, dry with soft silk, spread the ointment on red cloth, and apply. For Scrofula (Luoli), wash with salt water before application. For Wind-Red Eye (acute conjunctivitis), shape into small cakes and apply to the Taiyang acupoint. For lower back and knee pain, apply to the affected area. For abdominal pain due to menstrual obstruction in women, apply to the umbilicus. For all types of scabies, boil Sesame Oil (Mahuang You) and mix with the ointment for topical application. For bites from tigers, dogs, snakes, or scorpions, and cuts from knives or axes, also apply to the affected area.
Scrophulariae Radix (Xuanshen), Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui), Paeoniae Rubra Radix (Chishao), Cinnamomi Cortex (Rougui), Rheii Radix et Rhizoma (Dahuang), and Rehmanniae Radix (Shengdi), each one liang. Two jin of Sesame Oil (Mahuang You). Place in a copper pot, decoct until black. Filter out the dregs. Add twelve liang of Lead Oxide (Huandan). Decoct again until it forms beads when dropped in water and has moderate consistency when pinched between fingers. The ointment is ready. For swollen toxins and contusion pain, add Myrrha (Ruxiang) and Olibanum (Moyao). When decocting the oil, add one liang each of tender branches from Sophora japonica (Huai), Peach (Tao), Mulberry (Sang), and Willow (Liu).
Appendix: Method for Refining Dan: First stir-fry Lead Oxide (Huandan) until purple. Pour into a vat. Soak with one bucket of boiling water, then fill the vat with cold water. Stir constantly with a stick. Soak overnight. Discard the water. Stir-fry twice more as before. Grind into extremely fine powder. Use two liang of Licorice Root (Gancao), five qian each of Mint Leaf (Bohe), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng), and Safflower (Honghua). Decoct together until dry for best results.
