Fragrant Cyperus Rhizome (Xiangfu) stir-fried slightly, one jin; Atractylodes Rhizome (Wuyao) soaked slightly, five liang and three qian. Grind into fine powder. Boil with water and vinegar to make a paste from fermented rice dough (qu), then form pills. Use different guiding vehicles according to symptoms: for headache, take with tea; for phlegm-qi stagnation, take with ginger decoction; for blood disorders, take with wine, etc.
Feixiazi Han, who once traveled among the common people treating various diseases, prescribed Huanghe Dan (Yellow Crane Pill) for men and Qingnang Wan (Green Bag Pill) for women. These two formulas are considered the ancestral foundational prescriptions of traveling physicians (Youfang).
Gengsheng's note: The various formulas recorded in this compilation, when used appropriately, yield rapid effects. However, one must carefully examine the patient's constitution regarding deficiency or excess, and the syndrome's cold or heat nature. Do not administer blindly to avoid errors.
Treats all kinds of unnamed swelling and toxic sores; particularly effective for scrofula (Luoli).
Angelica Sinensis Root Tail (Guiwei), five qian; Rhubarb Radix et Rhizoma (Dahuang), Schizonepeta Spike (Jingjie), Platycodon Root (Jiegeng), Myrrh (Ruxiang, roasted), and Olibanum (Moyao, roasted), each two qian; Scutellaria Root (Huangqin) and Forsythia Fruit (Lianqiao), each three qian; Saposhnikovia Root (Fangfeng) and Notopterygium Rhizome et Radix (Qianghuo), each two qian five fen; Whole Scorpion (Quanxie), one qian; Cicada Slough (Chantui), twenty pieces with heads removed; Bombyx Batryticatus (Jiangcan), twenty-five strips; Ox Hide Glue (Niujiaojiao), one liang stir-fried with soil; Realgar (Xionghuang), seven fen.
Wipe with vinegar and roast.
If the quantity is two liang, boil with five qian of Toothed Soap Pod (Yazao) decoction before roasting until dry; if one liang, boil with five qian of Arnebiae Radix et Rhizoma (Zicao) nodes decoction before roasting until dry; if one liang, boil with five qian of Sappan Wood (Sumu) decoction before roasting until dry.
Grind all medicines into fine powder. Mix with true rice vinegar to form a paste and make pills. Each pill weighs one qian two fen. Coat with Cinnabar (Zhusha), one qian five fen. Store in porcelain bottles. Place five fen of Moschus (Shexiang) inside the bottle to preserve the medicinal properties. Take one pill per dose, delivered with warm wine. For abscesses not yet formed, it promotes internal resolution; for those already formed, it promotes pus discharge. The effect is extraordinarily miraculous.
Treats hemiplegia, deviation of the mouth and eyes, and speech difficulties. Also treats pediatric convulsive wind (Jingfeng) and spasms.
Sophora Flower (Huaihua), stir-fried, four liang; Angelica Sinensis Root (Danggui), Aconitum Lateralis Radix Praeparata (Chuanwu), and Scrophularia Root (Yuanshen), stir-fried, each two liang; Ephedra Herb (Mahuang), Poria (Fuling, mixed with pig brain milk), Saposhnikovia Root (Fangfeng), Mentha Haplocalyx (Bohe), and Licorice Root (Gancao), each one liang; Toothed Soap Pod (Zhuyazaojiao), skin and strings removed, stir-fried, five qian; Borneol (Bingpian), five fen, separately ground.
First, grind the first ten ingredients into fine powder. Then add the Borneol and mix evenly. Form pills with honey, sized like cherries. Take one pill per dose; for children, reduce the dose by half. Chew thoroughly and swallow with clear tea.
Gengsheng's note: Pediatric convulsive wind is divided into acute (Ji Jing) and chronic (Man Jing) types, which are as different as heaven and earth. Ancient and modern medical texts often confuse them. It is unknown that acute convulsive wind mostly belongs to fire, phlegm, and excess patterns, while chronic convulsive wind mostly belongs to wind (wind generated by spleen deficiency), cold, and deficiency patterns. This formula contains acrid, dry, ascending, and dispersing herbs such as Chuanwu, Yazao, Mahuang, and Bingpian, which open orifices and dispel wind. If administered for acute convulsive wind, it is feared that the tender yin and yang of children cannot withstand the dispersion. Only in cases with excessive fire and phlegm might it be harmless.
