Note: The above prescription primarily treats spleen deficiency manifesting as muscular heat with diarrhea, and thirst caused by deficient heat. If Kudzu Root, Aromatic Peiery's Costus Root, and Patchouli Leaf are removed, and Tangerine Peel (Chenpi) is added, it then treats spleen and stomach qi deficiency leading to loss of appetite, resulting in phlegm accumulation (Tanpi) and inability to expectorate sputum. Or it treats stomach qi deficiency and cold, which easily triggers vomiting and nausea. For various conditions following debility or major illness, this formula can be used for regulation.
Whenever the tongue coating appears yellow and slippery, indicating Spleen Qi Deficiency (Pi Qi Sun Sun), Wuwei Yigong San (Five-Ingredient Powder to Enrich the Work of the Spleen) plus White Peony Root (Baishao) should be used as the primary treatment.

Whenever the tongue coating appears yellow and slippery, and the tongue body is also swollen and tender, it indicates deficiency-cold of the Middle Qi in the Spleen and Stomach. Jianggui Yangrong Tang (Ginger and Cinnamon Nourishing Harmony Decoction) should be used as the primary treatment.
