Diseases of the breast are governed by the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian. The nipples belong to the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian. Mothers who are breastfeeding, if they fail to maintain proper care, may cause their milk to become turbid and stagnant. Combined with injury from anger, leading to Qi stagnation and condensation, abscess toxins form. Additionally, those injured by melancholy damaging the Liver, excessive worry damaging the Spleen, harboring obsessive thoughts in the heart, or having unfulfilled desires, may suffer from meridian obstruction and涩滞 (stagnation), causing nodules to aggregate and form lumps. Initially the size of a bean, gradually growing to the size of a chess piece. Over half a year to one year, or even two or three years, without pain or itching, they slowly enlarge. Only then does pain begin; once painful, it becomes intractable. Later, swelling resembles piled millet grains, or inverted millet, with a dark and foul complexion, gradually ulcerating. Deep lesions resemble rock caves, while protruding ones look like lotus flowers floating on water. Pain radiates to the heart, bleeding emits a foul odor. At this stage, the Five Zang Organs are all exhausted, and the Four Elements (the body) cannot be saved. This is named Ru Yan [Breast Cancer]. For anyone contracting this condition, not one in a hundred survives. Treatment should focus on clearing the Liver and resolving depression, benefiting Qi and nourishing Blood and Spirit. Patients must cultivate mental clarity and rest quietly, free from worries and hindrances. Through medicinal regulation, life can only be prolonged for a few years.
