During pregnancy, the body is invaded by dampness. The dampness seeps into the Bladder (Bladder organ), where accumulated heat fails to circulate and exit, resulting in dribbling urination and abdominal pain; this condition is known as Zi Lin (Subtype of strangury during pregnancy).
Qing Li Yin (Clearing and Draining Decoction): Treats Zi Lin caused by stagnation of damp-heat, characterized by abdominal pain.
Mu Tong (Akebiae Caulis), Bai Fu Ling (Poria), Mai Men Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Che Qian Zi (Plantaginis Semen), Da Fu Pi (Arecae Pericarpium) (each 1.5 qian), Dan Zhu Ye (Lophatheri Herba) (15 leaves), Deng Xin Cao (Junci Medulla) (30 stems).
Another prescription: Treats dribbling urination during pregnancy caused by excessive sexual activity.
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Chuan Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Ze Xie (Alismatis Rhizoma), Zhu Ling (Polyporus) (each 1.5 qian), Rou Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex), Bai Fu Ling (Poria) (each 0.8 qian), Da Zao (Ziziphi Jujubae Fructus) (5 pieces). Take before meals.
During pregnancy, if the body swells, urination is difficult, and the abdomen enlarges abnormally, rising higher than the heart and chest, this is caused by water accumulation within the fetus. There are also cases where excessive thirst leads to over-drinking, transforming into diarrhea, damaging the Spleen and Stomach. The resulting deficiency fails to control water metabolism, causing fetal edema.
Li Yu Tang (Carps Decoction): Treats various conditions related to fetal qi.
Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Fu Ling (Poria), Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) (each 3 liang), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (5 liang, stir-fried until slightly yellow, then ground into powder), Li Yu (Cyprinus carpio) (one whole fish, cleaned but scales retained).
Grind the herbs into a fine powder. Boil the carp in plain water until cooked, then collect the broth. For each dose, take two cups of the broth, add five qian of the herbal powder, and seven slices of Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens). Re-boil and take on an empty stomach.
If during pregnancy only the legs and feet swell, leading to asthma and chest oppression, and in severe cases yellow fluid oozes from between the toes, this is called Zi Qi (Fetal Qi/Edema of pregnancy).
Qian Jin Yin (Thousand Gold Decoction): Treats all forms of Zi Qi.
Guang Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Fang Ji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix), Wu Jia Pi (Acanthopanacis Cortex), Di Gu Pi (Lycii Cortex) (each 1.2 qian), Sang Bai Pi (Mori Cortex), Zi Su (Perillae Folium), Mu Gua (Chaenomelis Fructus) (each 1 qian), Deng Xin Cao (Junci Medulla) (30 stems). Take well after meals.
If during pregnancy, specifically between the third and fifth months, the woman suddenly loses her voice and cannot speak, or becomes mute by the ninth month, no treatment is necessary. It will heal spontaneously after delivery without medication. This is because the condition relates to the Kidney (Kidney organ); the Kidney meridian connects to the tongue. The constriction by fetal qi prevents speech.
The symptom of "fetal crying in the abdomen" occurs when a knot on the umbilical cord is held in the infant's mouth. When the pregnant woman climbs high and raises her arms, the knot slips out of the infant's mouth, producing sound. To stop this, instruct the pregnant woman to bend her waist and touch the ground as if picking up an object, which causes the knot to re-enter the infant's mouth, stopping the sound.
Huang Lian Tang (Coptis Decoction): Treats fetal crying in the abdomen.
Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma) (1 liang). Decoct into a thick liquid and sip occasionally.
Another prescription: Use soil from mouse holes in rooms used for sexual intercourse for many years, grind into powder, and take one qian with wine.
When pregnant women take medicine, the three methods of inducing sweating (Diaphoresis), vomiting (Emesis), and purging (Catharsis) are prohibited, as well as acupuncture and moxibustion.
