Fanwei (Regurgitation) generally presents in four patterns: Blood Deficiency, Qi Deficiency, Heat, and Phlegm with concurrent pathogenic factors. Treatment must utilize Tongbian (Children's Urine), Jiu Zhi (Leek Juice), Zhu Li (Bamboo Sap), Cow or Sheep Milk, and Sheng Jiang Zhi (Fresh Ginger Juice). If the pattern is Qi Deficiency, add to Sijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction), characterized by a weak pulse on the right hand; if Blood Deficiency, add to Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) with Tongbian, characterized by a weak pulse on the left hand. One must strictly avoid using aromatic and drying herbs; ingestion of such will inevitably lead to death. The diet should be light and bland.
To treat Fanwei, use Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome) 3 qian, soaked in Sheng Jiang Zhi and stir-fried, Shan Zha Rou (Hawthorn Flesh) 2 qian, Baohe Wan (Harmonize the Stomach Pill) 2 qian. Grind into fine powder, bind with rice paste into pills the size of hemp seeds, coat with Zhī Yān (Vermilion/Cinnabar coating), and administer sixty pills after boiling Ren Shen Tang (Ginseng Decoction) with Zhu Li once. If Phlegm is present, Er Chen Tang (Two-Cured Decoction) is the primary formula, with deep or hidden yet large pulses at the Cun and Guan positions. If Qi stagnation is present, herbs that open stagnation and guide Qi should be used, with deep and choppy pulses at the Cun and Guan positions. If Fanwei is caused by internal deficiency with Yin Fire flaming upward, treat as Yin Fire syndrome. In young patients, Siwu Tang clears the stomach region; dryness of blood failing to moisten causes constipation, as detailed in *Gezhi Yulun*. In elderly patients, although Renshen (Ginseng) and Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) may not always be used, one must guard against Qi Deficiency and Stomach Deficiency. For Qi Deficiency, use Sijunzi Tang plus Lugen (Reed Rhizome) and Tongbian, or Shenling Baizhu San (Ginseng, Poria, and Atractylodes Macrocephala Powder), or Jiu Zhi, Cow Milk, or Donkey Urine. Another cause is accumulated blood stagnating internally, which requires careful assessment and expulsion of stasis; cases with dry, difficult stools are hard to treat. Regular consumption of Rabbit Meat promotes bowel movement.
Fanwei is equivalent to Ge Ye (Dysphagia/Obstruction); Ge Ye is the precursor to Fanwei. *Fahui* states extensively that it is incurable in the elderly. Stools resembling sheep droppings indicate an incurable condition. Dai Yun stated: In Fanwei, Blood Deficiency presents with a rapid and weak pulse; Qi Deficiency presents with a slow and weak pulse; combined Qi and Blood Deficiency results in excessive saliva in the mouth, but massive salivation indicates inevitable death. Heat patterns present with a rapid and forceful pulse; Phlegm patterns present with slippery and rapid pulses, both of which are treatable. Blood Deficiency is primarily treated with Siwu Tang; Qi Deficiency with Sijunzi Tang; Heat with detoxification methods; Phlegm with Er Chen Tang.
Another Prescription:
Use Ma Bo'er (a specific insect/animal, retained as per source) burnt to ash but retaining its nature, 1 qian, mixed with good date flesh and Pingwei San (Regulate the Stomach Powder), 2 qian.

Another Prescription:
Zhu Yu (Evodia Fruit), Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome), Bei Mu (Fritillaria Bulb), Gua Lou (Trichosanthes Fruit), Niu Zhuan Cao (Herba Siegesbeckiae).
For treating Fanwei:
Jiu Cai Zhi (Leek Juice) 2 liang, Niu Ru (Cow Milk) 1 zhan.
