If there is fire and phlegm in the Stomach, add to the prescription: Rhizoma Arisaematis (Nanxing), Rhizoma Pinelliae Preparatum (Banxia), Rhizoma Cyperi (Xiangfu), Gypsum Fibrosum (Ruan Shigao), and take as a decoction or pill. Another formula: Gardeniae Fructus (Shanzhi) stir-fried. Belching and acid regurgitation are caused by food stagnation with heat, where fire qi moves upward and disturbs; use Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin) as the sovereign drug, Rhizoma Arisaematis (Nanxing) and Rhizoma Pinelliae Preparatum (Banxia) as minister drugs, Exocarpium Citri Reticulatae (Juhong) as assistant drugs, and if heat is severe, add Indigo Naturalis (Qingdai).
When damp-heat accumulates in the Liver for a long time and cannot emerge spontaneously, it lies latent between the Lung and Stomach. One must nourish oneself with vegetables and use Evodiae Fructus (Zhuyu) to follow its nature and restrain it; this is the method of counter-assistance.
Formula for treating acid regurgitation: Evodiae Fructus (Zhuyu) (5 qian, remove pedicel, boil briefly, soak for half a day, then dry); Exocarpium Citri Reticulatae (Chenpi) (5 qian); Atractylodis Rhizoma (Cangzhu) (7.5 qian, soak in rice wash water); Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian) (1 liang, stir-fry with soil from old walls, remove soil); Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin) (5 qian, stir-fry with soil from old walls, remove soil). Grind the above into powder, bind with paste made from Massae Medicatae Fermentatae (Shenqu) to form pills. To treat acid regurgitation, use Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian) and Evodiae Fructus (Zhuyu), each stir-fried according to the season as assistant and envoy drugs; Atractylodis Rhizoma (Cangzhu) and Poria (Fuling) as auxiliary drugs, soak in water, form small pills with steamed bread dough and swallow. Still, nourishing oneself with vegetables will make the disease easier to settle. Zhuyu Pill treats damp-heat mixed with qi stagnation; for severe damp-heat, use it as a guide drug, which can treat acid regurgitation upwards and diarrhea downwards. Take one dose of Liu Yi San, with 1 liang of Evodiae Fructus (Zhuyu) boiled. Another formula removes Zhuyu and adds 1 liang of dried Ginger (Ganjiang), named Wen Qing Wan; yet another formula uses 7 qian of Liu Yi San and 3 qian of Zhuyu to resolve phlegm. A person has vomited sour fluid for several years, occurring intermittently, with dysuria and borborygmus: Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu), Immature Aurantii Fructus (Zhishi), Zhuyu, Cangzhu, Amomi Fructus Rotundus (Suosha), Chenpi, Fuling, Xiangfu, Fritillariae Bulbus (Beimu), Raw Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Sheng Gancao), Alpiniae Katsumadai Seed (Baidoukou), Talcum (Huashi). Decoct and take the above.
Phlegm arises due to movement by fire. There is food accumulation and heat. Gardeniae Fructus (Zhizi) stir-fried, and Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian) stir-fried with ginger are indispensable. If there is heat in the esophagus and epigastrium, use stir-fried Gardeniae Fructus (Zhizi) and Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin) as sovereign drugs, Rhizoma Arisaematis (Nanxing), Rhizoma Pinelliae Preparatum (Banxia), Exocarpium Citri Reticulatae (Chenpi), and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) as assistant drugs; if heat is severe, add Indigo Naturalis (Qingdai). For obese individuals with a sensation of stomach discomfort (zaochi), use Er Chen Tang plus Cangzhu, Baizhu, Zhizi, and Chuanxiong Rhizome (Chuanxiong). Cold water qi in the heart and abdomen at the Zhongwan point, subcardiac zaochi, borborygmus, excessive expectoration of clear fluid, distending pain in the hypochondrium, loss of appetite, with a string-taut, slow, and fine pulse: Banxia Wenfei Tang includes Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin), Chenpi, Banxia, Cinnamomi Cortex (Guixin), Inulae Flos (Xuanjinhua), Gancao, Platycodonis Radix (Jiegeng) (each 5 qian above), Red Poria (Chifuling) (3 qian), Paeoniae Radix Alba (Shaoyao) (5 qian), Fresh Ginger (Shengjiang) (7 slices). The above treats the main condition of Stomach qi deficiency and cold.
