This is extreme Yin deficiency, involving phlegm and blood pathologies, often accompanied by parasites. Consumption leading to emaciation belongs to Fire syndrome, caused by the scorching and consuming action of Fire. When muscle wasting is severe, it is difficult to treat; when the patient cannot tolerate tonification, it is also difficult to treat. The treatment principle focuses on major tonification, using Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) added with Zhuli (Bamboo Sap), Tongbian (Child's Urine), and Jiangzhi (Ginger Juice). Another variation adds Chao Bo (Stir-fried Phellodendri Cortex). For Yang deficiency cases, Sijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) is used with Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Wuwei Zi (Schisandrae Fructus), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Chao Bo (Stir-fried Phellodendri Cortex), Zhuli (Bamboo Sap), Tongbian (Child's Urine), and Jiangzhi (Ginger Juice). Consumption is formed by accumulated heat; if the constitution was initially robust, Zhang Hezi's methods can be applied; later, when emaciated and exhausted, Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) modified is used to deliver Xiaoji Wan (Accumulation-Dissolving Pill). Heat assists Qi movement, preventing Yang deficiency but causing steaming-hot fever sensations; such accumulation diseases are most common. The Diaoding Fang (Dialing Cauldron Formula) contains Zihewan (Placenta Pill) for treating Chuanshi Laozai (Infectious Consumption); Qinghao Jian (Artemisia Annua Decoction) also treats Laozai (Consumption) (both formulas are recorded in *Yi Yao*). Chuanshi Laozai (Infectious Consumption) presents with alternating chills and fever, chronic cough with hemoptysis, and progressive emaciation; first use San'ao Tang (Three Unblocking Decoction), followed by Lianxin San (Connected Heart Powder). A male patient suffered from consumption weakness, tidal fever, cough with bloody sputum, symptoms lighter during the day and heavier at night, withered appearance, poor appetite, and severe Kidney deficiency: Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Biejia (Trionycis Carapax) (each 1 qian), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Wuwei Zi (Schisandrae Fructus), Chao Huangqin (Stir-fried Scutellariae Radix), Chao Baihuangbo (Stir-fried Phellodendri Cortex), Ruan Chaihu (Soft Bupleuri Radix), Diguxu (Lycii Cortex), Qinjiao (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix), Chao Lianqin (Stir-fried Coptidis Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) (each 5 fen), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix) (7.5 fen); decoct with Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) and take orally, simultaneously administering Sanbu Wan (Three Tonifying Pill). A female patient with consumption was treated with Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) added with Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), [missing character], Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Biejia (Trionycis Carapax), Diguxu (Lycii Cortex), Gange (Puerariae Radix), Wuwei Zi (Schisandrae Fructus), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), decocted in water and taken orally. For patients with consumption and high fever who cannot tolerate cold herbs like Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) and Lianqin (Coptidis Rhizoma), use Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), [missing character], Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Diguxu (Lycii Cortex), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Wuwei Zi (Schisandrae Fructus), Qinjiao (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Qinghao (Artemisiae Annuae Herba), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Hulanlian (Hydrastis Rhizoma); decoct with Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) and Wumei (Mume Fructus) and take orally. A 35-year-old man suffered from deficiency damage, morning chills and evening fever, treated with Sijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) added with Ruan Chaihu (Soft Bupleuri Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Diguxu (Lycii Cortex), Qinjiao (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix). A person with both Qi and Blood deficiency experienced bone-steaming chills and fever alternately, normal bowel movements, fine and rapid pulse, and poor appetite, treated with Bawu Tang (Eight Substances Decoction) added with Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex).
