The syndrome of rectal prolapse is caused by the stagnation and failure to disperse of Qi. It presents with a sense of urgency in the lower abdomen yet inability to defecate, and external swelling that cannot be reduced. Initially, Zhike San (Bitter Orange Powder) should be administered as a preparation. Subsequently, Zhike (Aurantii Fructus) should be burnt to ash while preserving its medicinal properties, ground into fine powder, and applied externally; or it may be mixed with saliva for topical application. Once the Qi disperses, the swelling will subside. Thereafter, Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Poria Pill) should be mixed with fresh ginger juice to form a paste, diluted with new water, slightly decocted, and taken orally along with Huanglian Ejiao Wan (Coptis and Donkey-Hide Gelatin Pill). Although this discussion addresses swelling accompanied by heat in the anal region, if the intestines are deficient and thin, failing to retain properly, then Lizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction), Diaochang Wan (Hook Intestine Pill), or Yangzang Tang (Nourish Viscera Decoction) should be used as primary treatments, supplemented by external application of Haiwu Gu (Sepiae Endoconcha) and Mozhe Cao (Equiseti Herba). (See details under Rectal Prolapse category.)
Generally, when the water passages fail to flow, the root lies in the Kidney, where Qian Niu Zi (Pharbitidis Semen) and Ze Xie (Alismatis Rhizoma) are indicated; the branch lies in the Lung, where Ting Li Zi (Lepidii Semen) and Sang Bai Pi (Mori Cortex) are indicated. Utilizing both sets of herbs will surely hit the disease's core. Additionally, using Mutong (Akebiae Caulis) and Hua Shi (Talcum) as adjuvants can further facilitate penetration and unblocking. Although the meridians of the large intestine and small intestine are interconnected, some individuals suffer from urinary retention for several days. By administering Shenbao Wan (Divine Preservation Pill) or Beiting Wan (Northern Pavilion Pill) to induce frequent bowel movements, the Qi of the small intestine becomes free, and urination naturally resumes.
Sha Lin (Sand Strangury), resembling congealed fat, is easy to dissipate; Shi Lin (Stone Strangury), forming hard masses, is difficult to eliminate. For treating Stone Strangury, it is most effective to take Zhike San (Bitter Orange Powder) and Laifu Dan (Reviving Life Pellet) on an empty stomach before meals. However, there is concern regarding excessive...
Zhuan Bao (Twisted Bladder) syndrome is common among pregnant women. The etiology involves holding back urine, preference for fried and roasted foods, or heat forcing the system after overeating. This causes the Qi of the Small Intestine to reverse and become obstructed, and the Qi of the Large Intestine to stagnate simultaneously. External fluids cannot enter the Bladder, and internal fluids cannot exit the Bladder. Symptoms include dribbling, urgency, and frequency; pain is unbearable when attempting to urinate. Defecation also presents with tenesmus and frequency, mimicking dysentery but not being dysentery. One must press manually from the chest down to below the umbilicus to immediately expel urine; otherwise, urine may regurgitate uncontrollably, potentially leading to severe abdominal distension and edema. The treatment method involves using cooling herbs to clear heat in the Small Intestine and simultaneously purging the Large Intestine. When abdominal cramping occurs and significant diarrhea ensues, the Bladder returns to its correct position, allowing urine to flow smoothly. Kuizi San (Abelmoschus Seed Powder) is found in the appendix "Women's Unique Prescriptions."
During the seventh or eighth month of pregnancy, injury from summerheat and heat can cause Tai Fan (Fetal Distress/Restlessness). The fetal Qi presses upward, causing obstruction in the throat, fullness and distension in the heart and abdomen, and a bearing-down sensation resembling dysentery. Upon visiting the toilet, after sitting for a long time, suddenly the Qi descends, allowing for one bowel movement. Laypeople typically administer dysentery medications, unaware that the pathology lies in fetal heat causing fetal distress. Xiao Chaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) can be used to deliver Huanglian Ejiao Wan (Coptis and Donkey-Hide Gelatin Pill), or a formula consisting of Chao Ejiao (Stir-fried Donkey-Hide Gelatin) and Jing Huanglian (Pure Coptis Rhizoma) each at 1 fen, Zhike (Aurantii Fructus) and Bei Dahuang (Northern Rheum Radix et Rhizoma) at half that amount, divided into two doses, decocted with Wu Mei (Mume Fructus), Ginger, and Honey. Once bowel movements are regulated, follow up with Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Suosha (Amomi Fructus Rotundus), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma). Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Poria Pill), Yinggan Wan (Responsive Digestion Pill), Xianglian Wan (Cardamom and Coptis Pill), and Zhuche Wan (Park-Charge Pill) are not appropriate treatments for this condition.
