黄芩 黄连 大黄（煨，各五钱）
炼蜜丸，温水下二十丸。
一方 治胆热口苦，因谋虑不决。
小柴胡汤加麦门冬、酸枣仁、地骨皮、远志，用水煎服。
小柴胡汤见寒门。
一方 口疮服凉药不愈者，因中焦土虚不能食，相火冲上无制，用理中汤加减服。
人参、白术、甘草、干姜。甚则加附子或加官桂尤妙。此从治之法也。
一方 治舌上无故出鲜血如线，槐花炒为末，敷之立止。

Treats sweet taste in the mouth caused by Spleen Heat (Pi Re, 脾热).
Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (stir-fried with bran, each 5 qian).
Make pills with refined honey, take 20 pills with warm water.
Another prescription: Treats bitter taste in the mouth caused by Gallbladder Heat (Dan Re, 胆热), due to indecisive deliberation.
Xiaochaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) plus Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Suanzaoren (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen), Digupi (Lycii Cortex), Yuanzhi (Polygalae Radix). Decoct in water and take orally.

Another prescription: For mouth ulcers that do not heal with cooling medicines, due to deficiency of Earth in the Middle Jiao (Zhong Jiao, 中焦) preventing digestion, and Ministerial Fire (Xiang Huo, 相火) rushing upward without restraint, use Lizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction) with modifications.
Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma). If severe, add Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) or Guigui (Cinnamomi Ramulus), which is particularly excellent. This is a method of treating from the opposite side (Cong Zhi, 从治).
Another prescription: For spontaneous bleeding of bright red blood like a thread from the tongue, stir-fry Huaihua (Sophorae Flos) into powder and apply topically to stop bleeding immediately.
For mouth ulcers, make Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) and Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) into powder and apply topically.
Another prescription: Make Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) and Xixin (Asari Radix) into powder and apply topically.
Another prescription: For mouth ulcers, both adults and children should use more Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) and less Xixin (Asari Radix), make into powder and apply topically.
Another prescription: For spontaneous bleeding from the lips like a thread, accumulating rapidly to fill a bowl, use Baicaoshuang (Carbonis Herba) to stop it, then administer fire-descending medicines.
Treats heat accumulation in the chest and diaphragm, mouth and tongue ulcers, and sore throat and swelling.
Shengma ( Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Gange (Puerariae Lobatae Radix) (each 1.5 qian), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (0.7 qian).
Decoct in water, take slowly while warm.
A child suffering from mouth ulcers unable to eat: first soak feet in Baijian Tang (Alumen Decoction). Half a day later, make Miyan Huangbai (Honey-fried Phellodendri Cortex) and Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus) into powder and apply topically; milk and food can be taken immediately.

Another prescription: For cracked lips and mouth, mix Guofen (Calcium Carbonatum) with raw honey and apply topically.

Another prescription: For malignant mouth ulcers in children. Use one grain of Badou (Crotonis Fructus) mixed with Zhiziyan (Carthami Flos dye) applied to Yintang (Ex-HN3) acupoint. Burn half an incense stick's time, then remove urgently; if not removed promptly, blisters will form.
Another prescription: For fishy odor in the mouth, use Xiebai San (Drain White Powder). White corresponds to Lung Metal (Fei Jin, 肺金). Heart Fire (Xin Huo, 心火) flares upward, injuring Lung Metal, causing dryness of qi, failing to nourish skin and hair externally...
Sangbaipi (Mori Cortex) (1.5 qian), Digupi (Lycii Cortex) (1 qian), Sheng Gancao (Raw Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (0.8 qian), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix) (each 0.5 qian). In summer, add Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus) and Xiangru (Elsholtziae Herba); in spring and autumn, add Huoxiang (Agastaches Herba). Decoct in water and take orally.
Another prescription: For mouth ulcers, decoct Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) in good wine, sip and swallow; heals immediately.
Another prescription: Sip watermelon juice slowly. In winter when no melon is available, burn the rind to ash and apply topically.
Another prescription: For bad breath, dry mouth, mouth and tongue ulcers, as well as sore throat and swelling, difficulty swallowing.
