To treat conditions after the Spring Equinox, substituting Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) and Mahuang Tang (Ephedra Decoction), it is also good for treating miscellaneous diseases.
Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) (each 1.25 qian), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) (each 1 qian), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) (0.4 qian).
Take as one dose, add two zhan of water, five slices of fresh ginger, decoct, and take hot. If there is already sweating, remove Cangzhu and add Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma). If thirsty, add Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma) and Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum).
This formula is seen in the "Zhong Han Men" (Cold Damage) section.
Sheng Lv Dou Fen (Powder of Vigna Mungo Seed), Mahuang Mo (Powder of Ephedrae Herba).
Take three qian each time, mix with cold water to administer, do not cover with blankets; recovery occurs upon sweating.
Treats Shanghan (Cold Damage), headache with high fever, or miasma contracted out of season, sudden cold causing headache, pain in limbs, joints, and bones, aversion to cold. For alternating chills and fever, combining with Xiaochaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) is especially effective. Also treats parotitis (mumps), shrimp plague, or hoarseness; these can also take this formula. If cheeks are swollen, apply juice of Cheqian Cao (Plantaginis Herba) externally; this is good.
Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Fuling (Poria), Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (each 0.8 fen), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) (each 1 qian), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix) (1.2 qian).
For those engaged in labor, double the amount of Renshen, add Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) and Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), add Jingjie Sui (Schizonepetae Spica) and Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix) as guiding herbs; this is excellent.
Add two zhan of water, decoct.
Treats Shi Qi (Seasonal Miasma) and Plague, Liang Gan Feng Han (simultaneous contraction of wind-cold on exterior and interior), children's rash not yet erupted, in a state of doubt; especially suitable to take, very safe.
Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Zisu (Perillae Folium), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum), Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix), Fuling (Poria), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (equal parts). If coughing, add Sangbaipi (Mori Cortex) and Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum). If headache, add Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma). If qi is excessive, remove Renshen.
Add two zhan of water, three slices of fresh ginger, one stalk of scallion, decoct and take.
Treats Gan Mao (Common Cold), headache caused by cold pathogen, stiffness and tension, aversion to cold with fever, or internal retention of food, discomfort in chest and diaphragm. Also treats cold pi (glomus) in the chest, cold phlegm after malaria. If no sweat, add Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba).
