If phlegm congestion is severe and stroke causes inability to speak, add Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus), Dansheng (Arisaematis Cum Bile), Changpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma), and Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma).
Add Changpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma) and Yuanzhi (Polygalae Radix), form pills with honey the size of a bullet, coat with Zhusha (Cinnabar), take one pill per dose, dissolve and swallow with Bohe Tang (Mint Decoction).
Another prescription: After recovery from stroke, if phlegm congestion and qi stagnation cause chest and diaphragm oppression, use Nanxing (Arismae Rhizoma) (8 qian, processed with ginger until penetrating), Guangmuxiang (Costi Radix) (1 qian). Add seven slices of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), decoct in water and take.
