Wind-Dampness, with a deep pulse, indicates that dampness was injured first and then wind. The symptoms include swelling and pain in the limbs, inability to turn or move the body, slight sweating on the forehead, aversion to cold with reluctance to remove clothing, difficulty in defecation, free urination, and fever that worsens at dusk. The treatment method is merely to slightly release the muscle layer (Ji). If one induces heavy sweating, the wind will leave but the dampness will remain; this is not only useless but also harmful. Use Qianghuo Chonghe Tang (Qianghuo Harmonizing Decoction). If there is throat thirst and difficult urination, use Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Poria Powder). If there is no heat on the exterior, no thirst inside, and free urination, use Shu Fu Tang (Atractylodes and Aconite Decoction). If there is a slow and weak pulse, coma, abdominal fullness, heaviness of the body, spontaneous sweating, loss of voice, and incontinence of diarrhea, use Baihu Tang (White Tiger Decoction) added with Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), removing Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma). If there is body swelling and pain, slight wheezing, and aversion to wind, use Xingren Tang (Apricot Kernel Decoction). If there is heat with vexation and thirst, use Xiaochaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) added with Tianhuafen (Trichosanthis Radix). If mistakenly purged, urination will certainly be difficult; use Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Poria Powder).
Dampness Invasion, with difficult urination, whole-body pain, jaundice, and loose stools, uses Yinchen Wuling San (Artemisiae Scopariae Five-Ingredient Poria Powder). If both urine and stool are free and there is no jaundice, use Shu Fu Tang (Atractylodes and Aconite Decoction). If there is body pain and nasal congestion, use Xiao Jianzhong Tang (Minor Construct the Middle Decoction) added with Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix).
Warm-Toxin refers to contracting cold-toxic abnormal qi in winter, which manifests in spring. Since the exterior syndrome has not resolved and the toxic vapor has not dispersed, there is a manifestation of macules. There is distress and stuffiness in the epigastrium, vomiting, coughing, followed inevitably by diarrhea. The Cun (Inch) pulse is surging and rapid, and the Chi (Cubit) pulse is solid and large; the disease is severe due to the abundance of Yang Qi. Generally, use Xuanshen Shengma Tang (Scrophulariae and Cimicifugae Decoction).
Summerheat Stroke, with a deficient and hidden pulse, feverish body, greasy complexion, spontaneous sweating, vexation, extreme thirst, erect hair, aversion to cold on the back, lethargy, and absence of body pain, differs greatly from all syndromes of Cold Damage. With internal and external heat, dry mouth, vexation, and thirst, slightly cold limbs without pain, use Baihu Tang (White Tiger Decoction). With phlegm reversal and aversion to cold, use Jupi Tang (Tangerine Peel Decoction). With stifling heat and no aversion to cold, use Zhuye Shigao Tang (Bamboo Leaf and Gypsum Decoction). With headache, nausea, and vexation, use Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Poria Powder). For summerheat stroke, Xiaochaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) added with Xiangru (Elsholtziae Herba) is best. With a slow pulse, shivering with erect hair, and dry mouth and teeth, use Renshen Baihu Tang (Ginseng White Tiger Decoction). For Huoluan (Cholera-like disorder) with vexation, extreme thirst, abdominal pain, cold extremities, and muscle cramps, Huanglian Xiangru Tang (Coptis and Elsholtzia Decoction) is essential; it must be taken suddenly while cold. If taken hot, it will cause vomiting and diarrhea.
