Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus, one sheng, washed) Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, three liang) Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, six liang) Dazao (Jujubae Fructus, twelve pieces)
The above four ingredients. Use seven sheng of water. Boil to obtain two sheng of decoction. Remove the dregs. Take seven ge warm. Administer three times daily.
This is originally a formula for warming the stomach, but it is also used to generally treat conditions of vomiting and diarrhea in Jueyin and Shaoyin meridians that are critical. Since Yangming Earth resides in the center, desire to vomit after eating indicates that Earth is overcome by Wood.
Stomach Qi is on the verge of collapse. According to theory, Wuzhuyu is primarily a herb for Jueyin. Here, Renshen, Gancao, and Dazao are used to stabilize the Middle Earth, while Wuzhuyu serves as the chief herb to warm the middle and dispel cold, thereby venting the Wood within the Earth. Thus, vomiting ceases and food can be retained. Regarding Shaoyin disease with vomiting and diarrhea, cold extremities, and extreme irritability wishing to die, this occurs because upper and lower aspects attack each other, and Stomach Qi is about to fail due to vomiting and diarrhea. Meanwhile, Jueyin Liver Wood further insults what it cannot conquer. The root of the disease lies in the Kidney, the pathogenesis involves the Lung, but the treatment focus is on the Stomach. With this formula to tonify Fire and generate Earth, turbid Yin will naturally recede.
Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, four liang) Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, one liang) Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, two liang) Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini, three liang) Jizihuang (Ovi Gallus Albumen, two raw eggs)
The above five ingredients. Use five sheng of water. First boil the first three ingredients. Obtain two sheng of decoction. Remove the dregs. Add Ejiao and melt it completely. Let it cool slightly. Add Jizihuang. Stir until well mixed. Take seven ge warm. Administer three times daily.
In Shaoyin disease, after two or three days, if there is mental restlessness and inability to sleep, this is caused by True Yin being scorched by pathogenic heat. Therefore, the treatment is to nourish Yin and clear heat. Huangqin and Huanglian purge heat. Ejiao and Jizihuang nourish Yin. Assisted by Shaoyao to astringe Yin and restore fluids, the heat clears and restlessness is eliminated.
Regarding the inability to sleep in this clause, it is due to heat damaging Yin, resulting in non-interaction between Heart and Kidney. Jizihuang enters the Heart meridian, and Ejiao enters the Kidney meridian. Since the disease root is in Shaoyin, it is appropriate to treat both Heart and Kidney simultaneously.
Chishizhi (Kaolinitum, one sheng, half used whole, half sifted into powder) Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, one liang) Jingmi (Oryza Sativa Japonica Group Semen, one sheng)
The above three ingredients. Use seven sheng of water. Cook the rice until soft. Remove the dregs. Add Chishizhi powder. Each dose is one fangcun bi. Take seven ge warm. Administer three times daily. If cured after one dose, do not take the remainder.
Shaoyin disease presenting with pus and blood in stool is due to excessive rushing from receiving Ministerial Fire transformation, leading to failure of the Kidney's storage function and complete loss of closure control. If not treated urgently, Yin will perish. Therefore, the acrid and astringent properties of Shizhi and Ganjiang are selected to disperse pathogens and secure collapse. Jingmi is added to benefit Middle Deficiency. First, ensure Middle Qi does not sink, then use half of the Chishizhi powder mixed for administration, allowing it to adhere to the large intestine and block the anal passage. The formula is named Taohua (Peach Blossom Decoction), not only because of color similarity, but also to symbolize the return of spring grain vitality.
