After the recent recovery from illness, Qi, Blood, and Body Fluids are depleted. One must be cautious and avoid all laborious activities. Engaging in speech, thinking, mental exertion, bathing, or physical labor will generate heat and cause the disease to relapse with symptoms identical to the original onset. Furthermore, after a recent recovery, the essence and marrow are dry; sexual intercourse is strictly prohibited. Committing sexual misconduct leading to labor-relapse (Lao Fu) is fatal. Wei Du Hu Gu Zixian, after recovering from illness, was instructed by Hua Tuo: "Be extremely cautious and avoid labor. General fatigue may be tolerated, but female-related fatigue (sexual exhaustion) leads to death." This is classified as Female Labor-Relapse (Nü Lao Fu), not Yin-Yang Exchange (Yin Yang Yi). The *Su Wen* states: "Those who have residual effects after febrile diseases..." This occurs because the intestines and stomach are still weak after a recent recovery. Overeating leads to indigestion, causing the disease to relapse with initial symptoms. This is called Food Relapse (Shi Fu). Generally, robust individuals require two months of recuperation, while weak individuals require one hundred days, after which no relapse will occur.
For labor-relapse caused by epidemic pathogens, presenting with headache and limb pain, use Cong Chi Tang (Scallion and Fermented Soybean Decoction).
Cong Bai (Scallion White) 0.5 sheng, Chi Xiao (Fermented Black Soybean) 0.5 sheng.
Boil Scallion White in 2.5 sheng of water until soft, strain, add 37 male rat feces (ground into powder), mix well, and divide into two doses. If not cured, prepare another dose.
For labor-relapse caused by epidemic pathogens manifesting as heat, with lower back and back pain, head stiffness, and heaviness worsening in the evening, use Gegen Jiang Chi Tang (Kudzu, Ginger, and Fermented Soybean Decoction).
Shaoyao (Peony Root) 1.5 liang, Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger) 1.5 liang, Chi Xiao (Fermented Black Soybean) 2.5 he, Cong Bai (Scallion White) 2.5 he, Gegen (Kudzu Root) 2 liang.
Coarsely crush ingredients, boil in 3 sheng of water until reduced to 2 sheng, add Chi Xiao, and boil until reduced to 1.5 sheng. Strain and drink 1 cup warm.
For labor-relapse following a major illness, use Zhishi Zhizi Tang (Immature Bitter Orange and Gardenia Decoction).
Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange) 1 fen, Fei Zhizi (Gardenia Fruit) 12 pieces, Xiang Chi (Fragrant Fermented Soybean) 0.5 sheng.
Boil Zhishi and Zhizi in 3 sheng of Jiang Shui (Sour Rice Water) until reduced to 2 sheng, add Xiang Chi, and boil until reduced to 1.5 sheng. Strain and drink 1 cup warm. Cover with blankets to induce slight sweating. For food-relapse, add 7 pieces of Dahuang (Rhubarb Root) the size of chess pieces, decoct together, and take to cure.
To treat labor-relapse after Taiyang Disease resembling the initial stage, with a floating pulse and no sweat, use Guizhi Zhizi Tang (Cinnamon Twig and Gardenia Decoction). (If spontaneous sweating is present, remove Mahuang.)
Zhizi (Gardenia Fruit) 12 pieces, Chi Xiao (Fermented Black Soybean) 0.5 sheng, Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig) 1 liang, Mahuang (Ephedra Herb) 1 liang.
Coarsely crush ingredients, boil in 3 sheng of water until reduced to 2 sheng, add Chi Xiao, and boil until 1.5 sheng remains. Strain and drink 1 cup warm. Cover with blankets to induce slight sweating for cure.
To treat labor-relapse after Taiyang Disease resembling the initial stage, with spontaneous sweating, floating-slippery pulse, and severe irritability, this formula is suitable: Zhizi Shigao Xiang Chi Tang (Gardenia, Gypsum, and Fragrant Fermented Soybean Decoction).
Zhizi (Gardenia Fruit) 16 pieces, Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) 4 liang, Xiang Chi (Fragrant Fermented Soybean) 1 liang (wrapped in silk).
Boil Zhizi and Shigao in 3 sheng of water until reduced to 2.5 sheng, add Chi Xiao, and boil until 1.5 sheng remains. Strain and drink 1 cup warm. (Alternative method: Add 14 male rat feces, ground, to the finished decoction, which is effective.)
When the disease has not yet stabilized, and labor causes heat qi to attack the chest, resulting in spasm and rigidity of hands and feet, convulsions resembling wind-stroke, use Gualou Tang (Trichosanthes Root Decoction).
Gualou Gen (Trichosanthes Root) 4 liang (use non-yellow vein parts if available), Dan Zhu Ru (Bamboo Shavings) 0.5 jin.
Boil in 3 sheng of water until reduced to 1.2 sheng. Strain and administer warm, divided into 2-3 doses daily.
For women whose disease has not yet stabilized, affected by their husband's sexual arousal, presenting with acute pain in the lower abdomen and perineum, waist and hip pain, inability to move limbs, and absence of heat signs, use Fuzi Huangqi Tang (Aconite and Astragalus Decoction).
Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) 0.5 liang, Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root) 0.5 liang, Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig) 0.5 liang, Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root) 0.5 liang, Gancao (Licorice Root) 0.5 liang, Shaoyao (Peony Root) 0.5 liang, Renshen (Ginseng Root) 0.5 liang, Huangqi (Astragalus Root) 0.3 fen, Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger) 1.5 liang.
Coarsely crush ingredients, boil in 4 sheng of water until reduced to 1.5 sheng. Strain and drink 1 cup at once. Take again after some time on an empty stomach. Cover with blankets to induce slight sweating.
For men suffering from relapse due to sexual fatigue, use Shushi Tang (Rat Feces Decoction).
Xie Gen (Allium Macrostemon Root) 1 sheng, Shushi (Rat Feces) 21 pieces (ground into powder. Those with sharp, hard tips are from male rats).
Boil Xie Gen in 3.5 sheng of water until reduced to 1.5 sheng. Strain, add rat feces powder, boil three more times, and drink 1 cup warm. Divide into three successive doses. Covering with clothes should produce sticky sweat as an effect. If no sweat occurs, prepare another dose. This also effectively treats Yin-Yang Exchange.
Men suffering from fever due to sexual fatigue relapse, with locked jaw, tongue protruding several inches before death. Or those initially presenting with joint pain as if beaten, heavy body, confusion, rapid/intermittent pulse (unmanageable); or those with continuous salivation, delirium, and agitation (unmanageable).
For post-epidemic labor-relapse manifesting as fever, vomiting, and inability to eat, use Lugen Tang (Reed Rhizome Decoction).
Lugen (Reed Rhizome) 0.5 sheng, Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger) 2 liang, Jupi (Tangerine Peel) 1 liang, Pipa Ye (Loquat Leaf) 1 liang.
Coarsely crush ingredients, boil in 3 sheng of water until reduced to 1.5 sheng. Strain and drink 1 cup warm. Highly effective. For heart irritability, add Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) 2 liang, add 1 sheng of water, and boil until 2 sheng remains.
