The diseases in women of this type should be distinguished. Heaviness and lightness of the body belong to different categories. During pregnancy, heaviness of the body requires stabilizing the fetus (An Tai); after childbirth, blood deficiency necessitates first tonifying blood. (Stabilizing the fetus during pregnancy and tonifying blood after childbirth are the general principles.) When Water and Fire mutually penalize (referring to disharmony between Heart and Kidney or Yin and Yang causing mutual damage), pathogenic factors infiltrate and cause self-injury; disharmony of Ying and Wei (nutritive and defensive qi) often leads to obstruction. In a healthy state, Water (Kidney Yin) nourishes Wood (Liver); when Water and Wood assist each other, blood flows freely. (In Shaoyang disease, men first regulate Qi, while women first regulate Blood. If the Blood Chamber is not stagnant, the Qi of the whole body is harmonious; if the Blood Chamber is congealed, Water and Fire mutually penalize, Five Elements generate changes through restriction, and recover through support. In daily health, Water nourishes Wood; Water and Wood generate each other, thus Ying blood fills the Blood Chamber. If the Blood Chamber is not stagnant, the Spleen has no accumulation; without accumulation, dryness does not arise.) A floating and tight pulse at the left Guan position indicates that sweating is appropriate. One must fear the formation of blood stasis in the Blood Chamber. (For women with a floating and tight pulse at the left Guan position, purgation is contraindicated; one should induce sweating to rescue the Blood Chamber. When Ying and Wei harmonize, fluids flow naturally, and slight sweating resolves the condition.) If the Blood Chamber is not stagnant, the Spleen has no accumulation, and dryness does not arise, thereby avoiding pathogenic heat. (Blood stasis generates dryness, which Zhang Zhongjing referred to as "do not violate Stomach Qi and the Upper and Middle Jiao.") After childbirth, three types of diseases commonly occur: hard and constipated stool difficult to pass; Yu Mao (dizziness and fainting) accompanied by spontaneous sweating; all these are due to blood deficiency leading to exhaustion of body fluids. (The three postpartum diseases—constipation, Yu Mao, and spontaneous sweating—are caused by blood deficiency.) Blood deficiency leads to Jue (cold extremities), and Jue inevitably causes Mao (fainting/dizziness); when the Mao condition resolves, profuse sweating occurs; since fluids are depleted, stool becomes difficult; solitary Yang rising upward may lead to Yin exhaustion. (These three conditions are all caused by insufficient blood and Yin deficiency, resulting in solitary Yang moving alone. One should tonify Yin to suppress Yang.) Only Chai Hu Si Wu Tang (Bupleurum and Four Substances Decoction) can perhaps harmonize and bring peace.
If a woman suffers from Wind Strike for seven to eight days, with continuous fever followed by chills, and her menstruation happens to start or just end, the heat enters the Blood Chamber along with the Yin blood. She is lucid during the day but delirious at dusk, appearing as if seeing ghosts. One must not violate Stomach Qi and the Three Jiao; the Xiao Chai Hu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) pattern is particularly accurate. Additionally, puncture Qimen (LR14) to drain Liver excess. Once the pathogen is eliminated, safety and auspiciousness are ensured. Treatment must be urgent and not delayed, lest it be too late when complications arise. (Zhongjing stated: If a woman suffers from Wind Strike with fever and aversion to cold, and her menstruation happens to start, after seven to eight days, when the heat subsides and the body becomes cool, with fullness and distress in the chest and diaphragm resembling Jie Xiong (Chest Binding), and delirium, this is Re Ru Xue Shi (Heat Entering the Blood Chamber). One should puncture Qimen acupoint according to deficiency or excess. He also stated: If a woman suffers from Wind Strike for seven to eight days, continuously developing alternating chills and fever occurring at specific times, and her menstruation happens to stop, this is Heat Entering the Blood Chamber. The blood will surely congeal, causing symptoms like malaria with periodic occurrence. Treat with Xiao Chai Hu Tang. He further stated: If a woman suffers from Shang Han (Cold Damage), goes mad, and her menstruation happens to start, being lucid during the day and delirious at dusk as if seeing ghosts, this is Heat Entering the Blood Chamber. Do not violate Stomach Qi and the Upper and Middle Jiao; the disease will heal spontaneously.)
