Irregular diet allows Yin pathogens to invade. Taiyin disease manifests as abdominal distension, with the pathology located in the Spleen. (*Suwen* states: Irregular daily activities allow Yin to be invaded; irregular diet allows Yin to be invaded. After four or five days of *Shanghan* (Cold Damage), the disease transmits to the Taiyin channel. The Taiyin channel belongs to the Spleen meridian, hence abdominal fullness occurs.) Shaoyin Kidney disease presents with a faint and fine pulse, mental restlessness, a desire only to sleep, and thirst without a fixed time. (Zhang Zhongjing states: The essence of Shaoyin disease is a faint and fine pulse, and a desire only to sleep. He also states: In Shaoyin disease, if there is a desire only to sleep, and after five or six days spontaneous diarrhea with thirst occurs.) Jueyin disease involves Qi rushing upward to strike below the heart, hunger without desire to eat, and vomiting of roundworms upon eating. ("Hui" sounds like "hui". Zhang Zhongjing states: Jueyin disease presents with excessive thirst, Qi rushing upward to strike the heart, hunger without desire to eat, and vomiting of roundworms upon eating.) If Yin disease deepens, Yang may suddenly cease, turning into Yin Du (Yin Toxin) beyond doubt. Limbs become cold and inverted, pain at the navel with a throbbing sensation, and body pain resembling being beaten by a rod can be known. (Song Di states: When Yin cold accumulates heavily below, slight Yang dissipates above, so symptoms are heavy, limbs are cold and inverted, navel and abdomen throb with pain, and body pain feels like being struck by a rod.) It may arise from cold substances injuring the Spleen and Stomach, or from sexual excess causing decline in the Kidney meridian. Internally, latent Yin is affected; externally, cold Qi invades. This leads to heaviness in the waist, headache, and fatigue. (Yin Du originally stems from Kidney Qi deficiency and cold, excessive desires, or injury from cold foods compounded by wind pathogen. Internally, Yin is latent; externally, Cold is felt. Or external Cold is first felt, while Yin lies latent internally. Both interior and exterior are Yin, so Yang Qi cannot guard, leading to headache, waist heaviness, abdominal pain, eye pain, physical lassitude, little heat, and cold inverted limbs.) Sweat is cold on the forehead and back of hands; within two or three days, one may still support oneself. (Cold sweat appears on the forehead and dorsal hands; within two or three days, one might rise and walk, not overly burdened.) The six pulses are deep and fine, occasionally rapid; the Chi position is short and weak. The Cun position may sometimes appear large. If mistakenly treated with purgation leading to diarrhea, how should it be managed? (Diagnosis of Yin Du: all six pulses are deep, fine, and rapid; the Chi position is short; the Cun position may be large. If all six pulses are floating-large or deep, pressing reveals large but not very rapid pulses, it is not a Yin syndrome. Mistaken purgation causes thirst to worsen and irritability to intensify.) As Yin disease deepens, abdominal pain increases, chest and heart feel distended, Zhengsheng (repetitive, low-pitched speech) follows. Profuse sweating does not stop, throat feels obstructed, fingernails turn cyanotic-black, complexion becomes dark. (Deep Yin disease causes throat obstruction, epigastric distension, hardness, irritability, thirst, profuse sweating, occasional Zhengsheng. Fingernails and complexion turn cyanotic-black. Zhang Zhongjing states: Deficiency leads to Zhengsheng.) At one breath cycle, the pulse beats seven times or more, deep, fine, and rapid. For those with these symptoms, moxa-apply Guanyuan (CV4) immediately without delay. (Six pulses are deep, fine, and rapid, exceeding seven beats per breath cycle. With these symptoms, quickly moxa-apply 200-300 Zhuans of Guanyuan acupoint, located 3 cun below the umbilicus.) Further treat with Jin Ye Dan (Golden Liquid Pill) and Lai Su Dan to hopefully restore Yang and save life. (After moxibustion, assist with Jin Ye Dan and Lai Su Dan, hoping for Yang restoration.)
